Experts say at hand are many things women can do to increase the health of their pregnancy -- and their baby -- long previously they conceive.
But while most women are concerned about what happens after they conceive, doctors say more should be thinking nearly what to do before they even try.I don't think enough women filch advantage of the fact that there are things you can do prior to conception to not solitary ensure your own health during pregnancy, but also that of your baby.

Stop Smoking
At the top of most experts' preconception "to do" list is quitting smoking -- a principal cause of problems for both mother and baby.

Folic Acid Important
Once pregnant, most women know it's important to whip folic acid supplements, which studies show can protect your baby from some serious birth defects, including spina bifida, a life-threatening spinal abnormality.

Easy on the Seafood
The one area where he and others do suggest exercising a little more alertness is in the consumption of seafood.

The Two-Week Rule
When it comes the dietary or lifestyle factors that might be questionable during pregnancy -- such as caffeine and artificial sweeteners -- doctors say here is less to worry about when trying to conceive. Still, some precautions still apply.

The Preconception Exam
A number of years ago, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists begin recommending that all women see their doctor for a pre-conception exam -- a physical that takes place prior to trying to conceive and focuses on the push button factors necessary for a healthy pregnancy.

If you optimize your form prior to getting pregnant, ultimately, you can have a healthier pregnancy, which is not only appropriate for you, but important to your baby. Source(s): WebMD Health & Pregnancy

90% of couples get pregnant contained by their first year of trying- it could take THAT long! I would get the book "taking charge of your fertility" and begin reading it very soon in preparation for things to come. Also check out fertilityfriend.com. It will give you a plethora of information, including how to naturally (or using OPKs) predict when you ovulate, and whether you did or not. Before you actively start ttc, I ruminate this is a great way to get all the info and enjoy a baseline established of what's normal for YOUR cycles so you can get pregnant as soon as possible when you DO begin.

Congratulations! And dutiful luck and Baby dust to you in January!
