Does extraordinary sperm shape affect fertility?

My husband and I are getting tests done to see if there is anything affecting our fertility, and his semen test come back showing that his sperm is 94% abnormally shaped. He has to procure re-tested but the doctor didn't say if this will affect things or not. I am also being re-tested for high prolactin level, which can be a factor. Does anyone know what it means if the sperm is nearly all abnormally shaped? Will this manufacture it hard to get pregnant?

Yes, strangely shaped sperm can affect fertility. You may benefit from intrauterine insemination. They spin the semen and sperm before they put it inside you, so that only the optimal sperm are used. I don't know if the spinning will get rid of the exceptional shaped sperm or not, but it is worth asking your doc about.

Answers:    Yes, the morphology of the sperm will directly effect fertility. More than likely you will not conceive next to IUI's but will need to use IVF with ICIS. My husband has duplicate issues as yours and we did 7 IUI's before it was discovered where be a morphology issue. We did 2 rounds of IVF with ICIS before we got pregnant.
