Is it possible to tutor my 16 month infirm to pick up after himself?

My 16 month old tornados through the house every single day. He LOVES to pull every single article out of every nook and crannie. He picks one thing up and walks down the hall passageway, drops it, picks something new up, drops it. I know this is normal but, being pregnant near number two, I am EXHAUSTED trying to keep up with this all time long. If I let it go until he goes to sleep at hours of darkness, its totally disasterous. I feel like he's just too young at heart to start learning to help me. Sometimes he will help put things surrounded by his toy bin, but ugh..I'm so tired...Any tips on how to keep up on this better would be appreciated! I know everyone goes though it. :) thanks.
You can make cleaning up a team game, but you'll still be doing almost all of the cleaning up yourself. When my daughter makes a mess of her toys, I tell her, "It's time to put away our toys. After we play near out toys, we put them away". Then I make sure she is watching me as I pick up each toy and put them in its proper place. She's 12 months dated, so I don't expect her to clean up...probably not until she's closer to 24 months. BUT, I can model behavior for her.
My oldest sees us pick up, and sometime my husband asked him to help him put the toys away, and he's been doing it just roughly speaking every time we've asked since then. He's 21 months, and we've been doing this a couple of months. Just make it seem to be fun! My son has a great time throwing the toys in.
Answers:    My little girl is 18 months and she's equal way. My husband says its like living near Godzilla. She tears through the house leaving a path of destruction behind her!
Ive be trying to get her to tidy up after herself for a while now, and she helps, something like 50% of the time. Most times she'll follow behind me and pull out everything I'd just put away.
She's a creature of obsession and loves her routines, so Ive been trying to turn 'clean up time' into a part of our each day routine.
Playtime after breakfast, clean up before lunch. Playtime after nap, verbs up before dinner.etc. Sometimes she helps, other times she just watches me, but at lowest she's getting the idea and hopefully one day (soon!) it will stick!
I disagree with you on that he is too young to verbs at least a small part of his mess..he has to take in that there is an order to things and giving him an age appropriate task focuses his attention and calm him down. It also helps with hand/eye coordination and motor skills. We sing the "Clean up song" for my 2 year old..we enjoy been singing in since she was around 14 months. I would sing the song and I would put my foot on top of hers to grab a toy and put it away with her.Now at 2 when things bring too messy, she actually sings it to herself and cleans up..its so cute to watch. Good Luck!

Everybody, Everywhere
Clean up, Clean up
Everybody do your share"
My son is the same course and now hes 2. i just tell him to pick his toys up and hurry resembling its super important and he listens quite okay.I had to repeat myself plenty of times tho!!
