Do you buy second foot things for your child and did you past you have them?
The only thing we bought second hand be my son's toddler bed, but we did buy him a brand new mattress for it though and I cleaned it extremely well with some hot hose and disinfectant before we put it in the house. As for his toys, clothing and other things they were adjectives bought new and will continue to be so. I like knowing if it have a problem when we get it home that we can take it back. You can't do that near second hand. You also don't know what kind of environment it came from.
I don't mind second hand things, but it depends. I'd buy second hand cribs, baby mattresses, toys, swings and other big ticket items. Clothes depend on the wear and gash and only outerwear, i.e. no cloth diapers, diaper covers, or underwear. I'd buy second hand bottles if they were within good clean shape, but I still buy new nipples.
Babies are expensive and sometimes you never know what they'll similar to until they try them so if I can save a few dollars, I'll do it! Nothing makes me more upset than paying a crapload of money for a brand new something in recent times to find out the baby hates it, i.e. my first child hated his crib so he never slept within it. $300 down the toilet; thank goodness our second child was ok with the crib.
But that's another nice article about second hand, sometimes that second hand item be only used a few times because it was an item their baby didn't resembling. We bought our swing and co-sleeper bassinet second hand for our second baby, and they were simply brand new because the original owner's baby didn't close to them.
i have.not often.but near price of things nowadays you need to.thank god for e bay
Ya I think it is pretty funny. With plentifully of people and their first they are like the I have to hold everything new. I have come across women with their second child who are alike way. I'm always like ok would you outdo one thing from your first child to the second child? It's just the same item. There are some things I bought first hand like bottles and stuff like that but clothes and toys and stuff you can other go nuts with bleach and cleaner lol. Personally I LOVE hand me downs!
Thank God for Ebay and Craig's document. Much better than resale shops.
I never bought second hand items until after my daughter be born. We spent way too much money on clothes and she is above average for her height and weight so she literally stays contained by an outfit for 4 months at the most. She is not even 2 1/2 and is super tall so she wears a size 4T-5T so we realized it is not worth investing money on clothes that she outgrows so smartly. I go to craigslist, and buy only brand name clothes contained by excellent condition, get them for a fraction of the cost.
I consider I can speak for most of us mothers when I say the more children you have the less it matter. With my first child, I didn't buy anything used. She had to have the best of everything. For some strange reason I thought that intended that everything had to be new, fresh, sparkling.
We live and learn. lol. When I have my second, I had learned that I didn't need to spend $50.00 for a untried trike, when I could get one for $7.00 at a yard sale. Those sandals that she wore for 6 weeks didn't enjoy to cost $15.00 when the .50 cents ones would work just as well.
There are some things I wouldn't buy second hand. Stuffed animals, mattresses, bottle nipples. Things that may be contaminated somehow. Besides these few things, most of my second daughters' things be second hand by either hand me downs, patio sales, adds in local serious newspaper or shopping at the Goodwill store. She's just as happy as my first child. :-)
I think before your first child is born you have a figment of your imagination of how being a parent is that is nothing similar to reality. No book can prepare you for it either.
I had some foot me down clothes for my daughter before she was born but we bought all of the swings and strollers and gobbledygook new. With my second born the only thing he is getting untried is a car seat. I feel really strongly that adjectives children should have a new car form. Everything else can be used.
I annoy my husband because I keep telling him if we have a boy subsequent he is wearing pink sleepers for the first year because no one will see his pajamas at night.
yes sometimes I do! depends on what it is. I get a lot of his clothes from consignment shops since they are picky more or less the condition of the layette they buy from sellers (not like a lot of stained clothes i see at thrift shops). and close to you wrote, I even if it's a great buy, I won't get it if it's in terrible non-fiaxable condition
Personally I would not buy my child a bed second hand, i.e. like the one thing I would feel wierd just about. I am planning for my baby and the only person I am getting things from is my sister because shes my sister and we both own girls
i would never have dreamed of buying secondhand, i had my first baby 10 months ago but i did except a few things hand down from friend so..and this month i brought a few bits of ebay which are great & second hand!!?!!? i think once baby come you realise how fast they grow out of bit and how much wear is still left in them and how expensive things can be!?
Americans have such squeamishness about things that are "used". We seem to feel we "deserve" to have only items that are in foreign, pristine condition. But if you think about it, especially with items resembling childrens' clothing and toys, how many times has that item been handle before you bought it? How often do you see small children grabbing at items within a store with grimy hands, only to hold their parent take it away from them and put it back on the shelf? Nothing is really pristine if it's been sitting within a store!
With children, it just is good common sense to buy used. Especially next to babies, their items are barely used before they outgrow them. Why spend a lot of money on brand unmarked, designer items that will hardly get any use? Babies don't care what sign they wear, it's the parent's ego dictating that. There's absolutely nothing wrong with buying a used bed, clothing, linens, etc. And it save a ton of money.
I have a friend who wont by off ebay, wont shop in charity shops etc. She say its her husband that doesnt like second hand, but I know she is just trying to spare my mood, because I buy lots of second hand stuff for Nora.
I didn't beside my 1st...I was really funny about it which was silly as you can capture such lovely things 2nd hand.my second baby I did buy second hand and I get a beautiful crib which would have cost me 300 pounds.I could never have afforded that,..the crib is so lovely that my friend have borrowed it for her new baby so it is 3rd hand in a minute!
My daughter whose immediately 3years old got her crib from her Aunt (we only borrowed it for the first year) but the crib be also very nice shape and it had been used by her Aunts closing 2 kids. The crib was in good shape and met adjectives the safety standards.
Her toddler bed she got given to her by the same aunt (our kids are individual 2 years apart) and it looked exactly the same as the ones in the stores for $80+.
We just bought new/used bunk bed, which were made into 2 seperate beds (their built to do bunk beds or seperates). The female that we bought them from had just purchased them less later a year ago and decided she wanted to buy new bed again. The set was only $100 with mattresses adjectives in nice shape, she even gave us the reciept from the store on the beds as proof.
The basic part is with anything you buy is to make sure it meet safety standards (like on crib bars you should not be able to fit a pop can between the bar as a babies head could get caught) and that you clean everything in the past use, even if it appears clean.
