17 month outmoded won't sleep within current toddler bed...?
My 17 month old daughter figured out how to get out of her crib so we bought her a toddler bed to be on the not dangerous side. She LOVES it during the day, will play on it, etc. She will fall asleep at night within it if my husband or I sing her to sleep and then slip out the door after she is out but she refuses to take a sleep on it and wakes up in the middle of the night screaming, crying, bang on the door until one of us stays in there with her. She never really falls vertebrae asleep enough for us to leave again though she we are getting very little sleep. We don't want to start the need of sleeping with her or her in our room so I am at a loss of what to do. Lack of sleep for both her and I are making life a short time difficult right now... any suggestions would be helpful!
Answers: I had equal problem with my DD. My husband and I wanted to try for another baby so know we had to get it sorted. As cruel as it sounds we found the only path was to break the habit of helping her to sleep. We established a good routine where on earth she had dinner, played, bath and then give her a count down telling her it was not long till bed time. We would then sit her down next to her milk and read her books explaining it would be bed time after the story. We would then take her upstairs and put her in bed giving her kisses and hours of darkness nights shutting the door behind us. She would scream and attain out banging on the door, the first time she did this we would put her back in and simply make clear to her it was bed time. The next times she got out we would merely put her back with no communication.
It was tough work for the first few nights but only lasted a few and presently she goes to bed like a little angel. Be strong and make a contribution it a go.
