2 Year outmoded really doomed to failure sleeper...any tips?
My 2 year old son is a terrible sleeper. Hes been approaching this since he was born and we've tried just about everything we can cogitate of. He goes to bed between 8pm and 9pm every night no problem and usually falls to sleep within minutes but other wakes about 2 hours later crying, sometimes going into his room and consoling him works other times he throws a tantrum and scream his head off. He goes support to sleep usually about 30 minutes to 1 hour later and wakes again nearly another 4 times a night.
Heres what we've tried,
Letting him watch cartoons surrounded by bed
No Television
Classical music
No Music
Lights on
Lights off
Going to him
Ignoring him
Changing the furniture in his room
Letting him sleep in a seperate bed within our room..(by the way his room is adjoined onto ours so hes not far away)
Giving him a bottle of milk
Reading him a bedtime story
Staying with him til he falls asleep
I've even on point in time tried yelling at him to "BE QUIET AND GO TO SLEEP" but that didnt work either
There is one thing that works (not surprisingly)...If I tolerate him sleep in our bed he sleeps all night but I dont want him to grasp into the habit of sleeping in my bed all the time as I know folks who have 9 and 10 year old kids who still sleep in their parents bed.
Any advice would be appreciated thanks
Answers: It sounds like he might be have night terrors. If that is the covering it is best to let him cry and leave him alone as long as he is not hurting himself. Usually when this happens the toddler wake up in the morning and doesn't even remember having them. Most kids will out grow them. I think it make it worse if you come in and interrupt his night terrors. I would google it and see if i.e. what he might be going through.
My oldest who is almost 4 was a horrible sleeper since the day he was born. He woke crying at most minuscule ten times or more a night. It is so exhausting to the parents and to the child. He is better now and rarely wake during the night. Does you son have a favorite stuffed animal or blanket? If not help him pick out something and make clear to him this will be his buddy to keep him company if he wakes in the middle of the dark.
I am sorry I really didn't have much advice because I have be there and have tried about everything and zilch seemed to help. Luckily things got better as my son get older.
i remember when i was a kid , really small , i can't sleep at all , i merely sleep when my mom sits next to me til i fall a sleep , because i always get hold of scared of ghosts , i alway see , hear stuff , when i tell my mom she doesn't believe me , i expect , when i was really really small , i always get worried of my lamb in my bedroom , cus everytime you look at it it's look like there is a smiley facade looking back at me , maybe your son has equal problem , i didn't tell me parent but there is one night i couldn't filch it so i started to scream the top of my head , and wet my self , my mom changed my kerosene lamp , try putting for him the safety night light , it really help , the reason i used to sleep in my parents bedroom , because i have this response like this is the safeties place in the world , because their are my parent , so what i suggest you is to put a safety oil lamp in your child bedroom , read him a bedtime story til he falls asleep , and when he cries , ask him what's going on , that way he will tell you what scare him , and believe him , my mom never believe me about the lamp thing .. it freaks me out when i be a kid , and never sleep before he sleeps , when my mom sleeps before me , i always return with freaked out , .. i don't know why , so .. yep .. hope that helped you
