How can I get hold of my 15 month behind the times past its sell-by date child food and on table food?
My son is 15mos old and still on baby food. I've been trying since he's be 6mos old to get him to eat simple table foods approaching mashed potatoes, pureed meats and such but to no avail he doesn't want table food. So we've been stuck on Gerber and Beechnut stage 2 and 3 foods. He will chomp through pieces of food from my plate but not much. Like if I'm eating meat he'll eat maybe 5 pieces of my meat and next he's done. If I'm eating a vegetable like cabbage or collard greens he'll eat it chopped up just about 5 or 6 times and he's done. He also likes string beans and pork and beans but he'll only eat 3 of respectively. Yes I count. Because he mainly eats baby food and he have hereditary anemia, I give him a vitamin supplement of polyvisol with iron.
I first discovered he be anemic when he was 13 mos old and the nurse told me that I should starve him then distribute him table food and he'll want to eat the food. I told her that I've tried that several times but it hasn't had any success. That be like the only thing she could conjecture of and she's supposed to be a nurse. His pediatrician says just keep at him and he'll eventually furnish up on baby food and want exclusively table food, just don't force him. I figure adjectives him and then trying would be like forcing him and his pediatrician didn't say to try that approach. He told me to lower his milk consumption and try more hose down and that may speed up the process.
His weight is fine, he's 27lbs just on baby food but its getting expensive and when we travel it become a problem. I'm beginning to wonder if this is a family affliction because my cousin was similar to that when he was that age and he didn't get on table food until he was 2yrs antiquated. I've heard that a few more of my cousins have had conversion problems also.
I looked-for to know if any other parents had this problem and how they overcame it and I'm totally open to suggestions.
I had alike problem with my youngest daughter and I just stopped giving her baby food and smaller amount Milk and juice and she started to eat table food. She still doesn't eat really okay but that is just her. She is 2 years old in a minute. Source(s): Mother of four 15,13,2 and 10 months
you might want to contact early intervention and ask for help within this matter. It sounds like a developmental issue, like him have issues coordinating his swallowing muscles. A speech and language pathologist should be able to give you some hints...or you could phone your local children's hospital and see if they have a "feeding clinic" for children with feed issues. Source(s): mom of 3 (13,9,3) youngest has verbal apraxia and EI helped me moderately a bit. One of his little friends from EI has severe feeding issues and survived on pediasure and tiny bites of food for more than 3 years.
Answers: I have a few suggestions... a short time ago rattling off the top of my head...
What if you feed him meals of what you know he will eat of table food, like dinner of veggies, meat and such from your plate and not proffer baby food at all. Put him in the illustrious chair, scoop some from your plate to his and let him guzzle.
You could "trick" him by putting mashed potatoes or mac n cheese in the used (but clean) baby food containers and perchance him seeing you take the food out of the container will make him think it's "newborn food."
Mix baby food with real food and serve.
Give milk singular at meal times, water the rest of the time throughout the day.
Offer fruits resembling bananas, peaches, plums that are cut up and he can feed himself.
Are you still spoon feeding him? Teaching the child to feed himself is a huge "independance" entity for them and makes them like to eat... my son (now 20 months) have been feeding himself since one year or so (on the things he could grab) and now he eat everything on his own, including things needing a spoon.
I weaned my son off of formula and baby food at the same time. He get more water and ate like mad. I offered table food first. and just table food. Then if I thought he didnt get enough, then volunteer baby food.
I gave him a little bit of everything I have made and he ate some and not all the different kinds. It is a slow process. Once he finds out he can stay full longer by eating table food, he will want it. Source(s): 15 month antiquated who wont eat baby food.
