MY little nephew is almost 4 and doesn't settle should i be worried?
My little nephew is just over 3 and a half years old and he isn't conversation full sentences yet just various words and kinda mumbles sentences that not a soul can understand, i know that every kid is different and that doesn't mean hes stupid but i think hes parents are getting massively frustrated with him for not talking. and was wondering if perchance he doesnt feel confident enough to talk introductory because of it?
he needs to be evaluated.
My step brother did the same thing. Get his audible range checked. he might not be able to hear people properly so he isn't learning the words properly and thus mumbling what sounds approaching random words but that's the way he might be hearing them. and as for proper sentences he's not bringing up the rear that's still normal.
Answers: his parents need to call the local school and make clear to them they feel he has a communication disability and want to have him evaulated. Under IDEA ( individuals beside disabilities education act) all public school systems surrounded by the US MUST test a child to rule out a disability at the parents request ( for free). If he tests as having a communication rescheduling ( he will) they must provide education options for him, including therapy. My son have articulation problems due to a disorder called verabl apraxia. he gets free 1/2 day preschool 4 days a week within a special needs classroom, bussing to and from school, and group speech therapy. In adding up, since he qualifies for school, he also gets a give in from the board of developmental disabilities to pay for additional private therapy.
You are remarkably right that he is not stupid just because he is not talking. My son is technically developmentally disabled b/c of his speech delay, however at 3 years old his preschool teacher put him in duplicate work group with the "normal" 4&5 year olds. His speech therapist is starting to teach him to read b/c she is running out of trial things to do with him.
give it time..not everyone is reliable ya know.
