Pethadine - Your experiences on it?
Hi,
I am just looking into making my birthing plan and everything has nasty side effects. Im far too worried to even write epidural down as i hate needles and dont want to not be able to push and have my newborn by forceps, and then next thing they extend for pain relief is pethadine, but it says it make 1 in 3 sick and feel drunk and dizzy??
Im just so confusewd,..everything seem to have bad side effects and some are even so bad they produce the babies breathing slow down and they have to give bub and injection to counteract the one i would have have to make them back to normal after the birth??
Euuurgh im so confused, i would love to hold just gas and air on my birthing plan and actually stick to it but i entail a back up plan.
Thanks
have you thought about using a tight machine the thing is i never made a birthing plan it is not easy to stick to on the year i used pethidine with my second it just made me sleep.i have have an epidural with first and 2 drug free births they were the best labour and birth experience i have.and two with gas and air
The effects will diverge for everyone I guess, but I hated it, awful stuff, it makes you dizzy and feel completely out of it, I held my babe and nearly dropped her I was that out of it. I does affect the baby too, yes, it can make them drowsy also and can be tricky for them to take milk.
I be given pethidine because the anesthesiologist was busy so i couldn't get the epidural. It was the strangest entry ever, i feel drunk and i had a 10 second memory i kept asking my husband where we be and if we were having a baby, i kept going surrounded by and out of consciousness ... it was kinda funny. Then i finally got the epidural and it was amazing. the pethidine just last like 2-3 hours, wore off by the time i get my epidural. I had an awesome experience, i got the epidural at almost 6am when i was 1cm and by 8:30am i be 10cm and i gave a few pushes and out was my baby. I didn't grain any pain or anything.
Pethidine just made me sleep between contractions. it doesn't really dull the torment. It was good because I was exhausted but if you're discussion about pain relief, nope didn't work for me woke up for every prickly contraction.
Pethidine should only make your baby drowsy if given too close to actual birth. I have it 4 hours before I had my son and he had no problems.
PS Gas made me vomit.
Answers: Pethadine did nothing for me. I do believe it may have contributed to my daughter not self able to breathe - as I was given it too close to her birth.
Why not just put down anything, as long as you ask for it surrounded by labour. You have no idea what you want until you are surrounded by it. I was petrified of an epidural needle going into my back, until I found out what workforce pain was like..I with the sole purpose got an epidural with my first, my second pethadine, gas and air, third gas and nouns. Oh and you can still push when you have an epidural. I actually pressed the button too many times and couldnt get the impression a thing, but the midwife still told me when to push by touching my stomach and letting me know when I was contracting.
My only suggestion, don't completely rule anything out just in case.
