When should I start taking prenatals?

I forget when I started with my first pregnancy. I'm on folic acid right now...I be just wondering when you all started your vitamins?
I have actually been taking them for months while TTC.
Folic acid is perfect to be on until you can talk to your doctor and have him/her recommend a particular brand of prenatal vitamins to you. If possible, you could bid your doctor up and ask him/her before your first appointment.

If you're not pregnant yet, just put together sure to take a good multi-vitamin that includes 400 micrograms of folic acid respectively day. Source(s): http://www.webmd.com/baby/guide/prenatal…
Answers:    I have other taken them before conception, even though your body doesn't *need* all the extra iron that prenatals provide in hasty pregnancy (in later pregnancy, though, it's essential). The iron can, in fact, exacerbate conditions resembling morning sickness, constipation, heartburn and indigestion. In my first pregnancy, I took prenatal vitamins faithfully from three months before I conceived until that day at nearly 8 weeks that my morning sickness blew within like a tornado. At that point, I asked the doc what other options there be and she ended up putting me on kids Flintstone's vitamins and a separate folic acid supplement. Even then, I still have to take them at night to avoid bringing them back up (the folic acerbic by itself, however, never bothered me). If you aren't having much tummy trouble, I'd say start taking them now. I don't know if you own Target in your area, but their store brand prenatal vitamins are the ones I'm taking right now. I used them during my second pregnancy, too, and they were easier to take than the prescription ones because they're well-coated. Good luck.
did you know that you don't even obligation a prescription anymore to get prenatals? So go to the drug store and pick some up and start taking them until your next appointment.

I'll be honest though...i'm 37 weeks pregnant...and i took my prenatals for something like 2 weeks and said F this..i took finding nemo gummies randomly...maybe a couple times a month.

I did tell my dr asap that i wasn't and would not finish taking my prenatals.i have 21 long weeks of morning sickness and didn't want the vitamins to keep adding to the problem..and he actually didn't guardianship.none of my ob's cared...and i have 4 of them.

The only entry is..if you're not going to take your prenatals.then you need to get through right.and i mean hardcore..the best part about me when i be pregnant...that even though i was throwing everything back up.i absolutely craved fruit and veggies and didn't drink soda or drink junk...i craved healthy.and that was the chief reason why the dr's didn't fight about me not taking the prenatals.

Also, if you start taking them, and they label you sick during the day...take them at night.next to a glass of water and a full tummy :)

Good luck
As soon as you know you're pregnant or if you regard you could be pregnant. The day after the positive pregnancy test I ran out and get some over the counter prenantals. I was just over 5 weeks pregnant.
You need to start urgently. It's actually recommended to begin taking them BEFORE you get pregnant, but unsurprisingly most pregnancies are unplanned. However, you need to be taking them right now because they play a huge role in how your toddler develops. Good luck!!
My OB told me that women should start taking prenatal vitamins as soon as they begin TTC. She told me that even those first couple weeks before you know you are pregnant, the fetus is naissance his/her journey to life as a baby, growing hurriedly daily. It's best to have the extra vitamins and minerals on board already to present baby that perfect start to a long, healthy, elated life. I would say to start ASAP. Happy Pregnancy! Its exceedingly important to take them BEFORE you get pregnant.. lots happen to a baby in the first couple weeks and you would probably be 4-6 weeks at least earlier you could get a positive test.. so definately before if you are trying.
start them as soon as possible Source(s): mom of 3 boys
ASAP! It's actually even recommended to start taking them earlier pregnancy when actively trying... if it was a surprise then as soon as you find out! Hehe
I started taking them when i found out i was pregnant. Pregnecare (not sure of the spelling) is fine to take all through your pregnancy and also after you've given birth so you can start taking it whenever you want.
A few months past conceiving. But I think the folic acid is the important one.
Now! It is good that you are on folic sharp . Really all women that might become pregnant should be taking folic acid (800 mg) daily.
I started as soon as I found out I be pregnant. A few weeks ago.
When we were TTC I bought some but other forgot to take them. When I found out I was 4 weeks exactly and I started taking them that day. Congrats on your pregnancy!

Edit-You're just on Folic Acid? I just went to Walgreens and got a generic brand of prenatals. They enjoy 800 mg of Folic Acid which is the recomended amount you should be taking. I guess talk to your doctor and ask him if you should be on just prenatals.
