Anyone own a child who have taken Anxiety medication?
I am looking to hear from people who have experience with their child taking medication for anxiety. What medication, side effects, does it work etc...?
We are taking my youngest son (age 9) subsequent week to a pediatric psychiatrist for his anxiety and I have a feeling the topic of medication will come up. My son is anxious about conversation to anyone about his anxiety and so from what I have read, they usually will start with medication and after add psychotherapy as he becomes more comfortable.
I hate the notion of medication but if it will help my son then I am willing to try it. His anxiety interferes next to his daily life. He's had issues near anxiety and fears since he was little and I always hoped as he got elder it would get better but it just gets worse instead and he develops modern things to worry about all the time. My son have learning issues and we recently tried him on Concerta for attention issues however it exasperated his anxiety and so we just took him sour it and now his pediatrician is sending us to this other doctor for the anxiety.
So I would like to hear from anyone who's child or family member child has taken medication for anxiety.
Thanks!
PS> please star my question so more people will see it :)
In any situation, start low dose if possible. And I'd check with a apt alternative medicine center, also. I dislike meds. That's all I can offer. I so need I knew more.

Personally, No, my children have never required anything like that. But I preference you God Speed in finding the answers you are looking for.
Answers: My entire family unit has problems with nerves and anxiety (we are all terribly high strung and anxious). My nephew started taking meds when he was 12, but he could have used them abundantly sooner. I cannot tell you the names of the medications but I do know that they have a heck of a time finding one that would work for him (many of them made him drowsy, others seemed to make the anxiety worse). If you do not succeed on the first attempt try different types and you should be able to find one that works for your son.
I know that it is firm to put a child on medication but it will make his life so much easier. It is worth it if it lets him relax and relish life; the alternative is much worse than the cure.
Good luck!
I used to have anxiety as a kid too. I was afraid of crowds, fully fledged, and would run to my mom when too many kids were near me. (then again, I did find them to be adjectives idiots.)
Personally I don't think medication is good for a child so young, after a while you are bound to find addicted. When he grows up, he'll be popping the pills every hour. Slowly show him his fears are normal.
(Example)Let's say the dark: Sit on his bed, hugging him beside a night light on. Then slowly progress to full blow darkness.
All his worries- reach a deal to him as a adult. I know a lot of younger kids with anxiety and sometimes they look at things differently than other kids.
Try to help out him face his fears. I know as a kid, in the dark, my mother used to invite my cousins and have them there as support helped me out a lot.
