Any suggestions how to entertain/occupy kids while on an 8 hour flight?

Also, anyone with a big family whose been nearby and has advice about nouns travel would be appreciated.
if its an 8 hour flight they should provide you with television with kids programmes anyway depending what airline your flying with. you could take books, colouring books crayons, gameboys, mini booard games etc but beside all those thing my kids still got bored i chew over its inevitable but it keeps them occupied for a while.
Well depending on how many kids and their ages it really depends. I took my 15 month out-of-date daughter to meet my family in The US and we did great. It's a 16 hour flight from Beijing to LAX so I be really worried. I found that an MP5 player worked great the only problem would be with the batteries/recharging. Most have a run time of 5 hours for songs and 4 hours for video.

DON'T BRING PILLOWS! It's a consume of space and you'll have to lug them around, they provide pillows in flight so don't waste your precious liveliness.

For older kids coloring books and crayons don't take a lot of space and hold on to them sitting in their seats. Small bags of legos can do okay, action figures (like transformers for boys or barbies for girls), Etch A Sketch, Play-Doh, Uno cards/ cards.

For younger kids/ toddlers hand puppet, books, play cell phone, lots of snacks and a leash. They won't be able to sit still that long so you HAVE TO let them walk a touch...near the restrooms is usually a larger area. Bubbles are pretty good IF everyone on the plane is not sleeping- they tend to squeal. Crayons can be messy (they similar to to write on the tray tables) so unless it's erase-able then skip it. Also nothing with small parts as they are flowing to throw. But the songs work great because you can slap earphones on them and you just do the actions next to them. Raffi is my all time favorite...he even has a brush your teeth song.

Hopefully you will have another mature flying with you, which will make any trip so much easier. I went alone and I have the flight attendants watching our daughter while I went on potty breaks. Source(s): Good luck and it really depends on how well behaved your kids typically are as well-
If you do give them candy, make it those candy dots, or anything that keep them occupied having to work at getting to the candy, wrappers are good too.

Also Bendaroos/WikiSticks - although they resign from the residue on the plane window - oops.
hey carrie. i'm thinking you probably have at least as various ideas how to entertain kids as any of us. but when we went to vienna we entertain ourselves watching the channel on the tvs that shows where the plane is and altitude and speed and all that, played a bunch of games of battleship (we draw our own grids and draw within the boats) and hangman, and the kids had binders with paper for journal, paper for drawing, crayons and pencils, and some printouts i got from the computer (sudoku, crosswords, and logic puzzles for the big kids; coloring pages and dot-to-dots and maze for the little ones). and lots of books. also we had a few small gizmos like a rubik's cube, one of those things you shake and look for tiny objects in, a mini boggle activity, magnetic chutes and ladders, etc.
portable dvd player so they can watch movies of their likings.
CARRRIIIIEEEEEE!…

I missed you!

I hope you have a great time! Is this a vaca? Or the move to...(omg i dont remember lol)

*Haha lol I be going to say England, lol
Wow...you guys must be sooo excited!
Im excited for you!

I would bring ipods if you guys have any of those, books, a pillow and hopefully you can sleep, cause MAN THAT'S LONG! lol I dont know how I'd even hold myself occupied.
I always bring snacks, travel games, books, hand held video games, coloring book and crayons, music and a portable DVD player near a couple movies.
when me and my two older sister were little we used to kind up little activity books. they would have find a words, crosswords, unscramble the words, fill surrounded by the blanks... etc. and we would do them on long car trips. maybe you could help them fashion some. =]
i always loved them.
Answers:    It depends on how old the kids are
1-2 years old a few small hand toys -nothing next to a bunch of little parts on any age.
2 - 3 a few small toys and a 2 books
4 - 7 some colors in a bag 1 color book , a book to read, a travel game.
8 and up a book to read, ipod, and a foot held game.
If the kids are old enough own them put their stuff in a small bag / purse and carry it if the kids are little I don`t know you can put each child's in a large fastener lock bag and put their name on each sack, then put them in 1 large pack for you to carry, you can also put any baby food, snacks, and baby milk, diapers, wipe in the big bag - maybe use one of those cloth grocery plenty with handles.
Try to take as little as you can on the train .
as for little ones who can walk but might wounder off get a child leash - one that fits around the chest not a short time ago on the wrist I always hated them until my first flight with a 3 year ancient and it became my best friend, with the older kids manufacture them buddy up ,
do a bathroom run before the flight, any stop overs and right after, you have plenty of time before your luggage get to turn table.
and if the kids can have it make sure they have some gum for run off, if the kids are to little make sure they have a drink at hold off time, it will help with ear popping. If your child wants a car seat in the saloon you could also check to see about useing a car seat on the flight - but be aware that it is a big hassle to get one from plane to plane if you don't have any help, and you can't use buster (sp) seats on the plane but entail them for the ride after the trip pack them in a suitcase so you don't have to buy new ones a moment ago for a vacation. When we took all 8 kids away it was a bit of a nightmare on the plane.

The older kids be fine with their I pods and books to read.

We took travel games for you younger ones, and made sure we had pillows and blankets so they could get a sleep if they needed one.

With the older kids we also played guess the City, if you can see out of the plane window and your below the clouds, we would all guess what country or city we be above. We also got the kids to point out different geogrpahical features for example meanders in rivers, corries, ox bow lake, and for the younger kids the sea, mountains etc.

That filled up about an hour and be educational.

Also our older kids have easter holiday homework to do, so they transport that on the plane sometimes, so they don't have to do it during their holiday.
Just remember, not matter what happen, it will all be over in eight hours!
