You don't seem to think through. It isn't either or. Spanking is not the punishment, it is how you handle a child who has worked themselves up beyond words.
When I be between 10 and 18, I would have picked the spanking. We were always grounded for the rest of the year, but my butt didn't hurt so much that next day.

Spanking is completely a waste of time, energy, emotion and annoyance. Kids involve consequences that MATTER to them in order for it to make any difference. Pre teens not to mention any other age child doesn't benefit from spanking surrounded by any way,shape or form in my opinion.
