Any tips on weaning my 17mo gorgeous son?

Hi! So my son will be 18mo in 2 weeks and I decided I'm done!!

He's down to 1 or 2 nursing sessions a day, for his rest and bedtime.. He falls asleep on his own maybe 2-3 times a week so it shouldn't be that hard, right? I'd appreciate any help, thanx, you rock!

Oh and for the in the dark a--holes please don't make a fool of yourselves here, I made the educated, best choice by nursing as long as possible, move right along please

I wouldn't wean, I absolutely love nursing my cutie, but I considerate of have to, so... I can't ''just keep doing it''..
Answers:    Congrats on nursing to 18 months!! You evidently care a great deal about your son's robustness, so gradual weaning is the most gentle option (unless you have medical root to go cold turkey). Ideally, set a goal time frame, like 4 - 6 weeks contained by which you will try to always offer a alternative method of going to sleep instead of nursing, but, if he asks, don't refuse to nurse him (aka the 'don't donate / don't refuse' method).

In the daytime, make sure to give him extra cuddles and spend quality time together so that he know your bond to him is still secure without nursing. You can also try talking to him roughly it, like saying 'milk is sleeping now, you sleep too' or something similar, and proposal a preemptive drink of water before nap/bedtime so he's not thirsty.

Good luck, and hope you have a seemless transition to (finally!) have your body back to yourself! :) Source(s): nursing mom to 16 month old
