Anyone own any apposite home remedies for a sunburn?
I'm posting in the parenting section cause adjectives the other sections scare me. This isn't because my child has a sunburn (which she doesn't because you KNOW I would remember to put sunscreen on her back we went canoeing yesterday), but because I do. Other then aloe vera (which I'm thoroughly slathered in) & lots of water, what other recommendation do you have?
Chamomile tea is really soothing on rashes and sunburns. We a short time ago microwave some water, stick in a tea bag and consent to it sit a few minutes, then dip a paper towel or washcloth in it and pat the skin. My kids love how soothing it is. Depsite sunblock their cheeks (face LOL) other burn. They even like it in their baths. Just make sure it is plain chamomile once I bought some and it have vanilla in it as well. You can get it surrounded by the regular tea section.
To cure a sunburn first, and obviously - stay out of the sun until it is heal.
Some people don't believe me, but I always "take the burn out" by taking the Hottest shower I can stand. I am not sure why it works, but it does.
Once I am done near the shower, I Use Apple Cider Vinegar (not white) to get the sting and burn out. Just either spray on in a spray bottle or blot on beside a washcloth.
Take some Ibuprofen to help with pain and swelling.
Lather up beside Aloe - The actual plant is a #1 choice, if you don't have that then use what you can from the store.
Once the aloe "dries" it can actually stretch your skin (and hurt) so be sure to put some really moisturizing "after sun" lotion on. Be sure it is for after sun use, these normall contain lots of stuff to replenish the moisture lost from drying out within the sun.
Good Luck

When vacationing in Maui I got such a unpardonable sunburn(usually I don't burn) and I happen to try a witch hazel cream. It took the soreness out and made it possible to sleep on my back again. Also if you're big on the aloe vera but hate the mess cream can kind, try the gel based aloe vera (it drys almost instantly, good for when you have to dance out) Source(s): Life Lesson Learned
My dermatologist recommend an SPF of at least 35, but I use a 50.
I don't know if you're familiar with Sunbrella, it's a specially patented stuff, that comes in clothing now, from shirts to hats.

Other than what you'ree using to avoid sunburn so that you won't NEED a remedy, Solarcain is a topical cream that have a small amount of lidocaine in it, and it will reduce the sting.
Others that have mentioned vinegar, can milk, and other home remedies, you might want to give them a try, if they work for you, great.
Also, avoiding the sun between 10 and 2 (preferably 4) will further minimize your overall risk.

Pat on white vinegar, it takes the sting out of a sunburn.
white vinegar and water does work but is slightly smelly...i would always do that and then apply a lotion that have aloe vera in it onto the burn to help me out, and trust me...i've been burned a time or two (to the point of looking resembling a lobster, scales included) Also give ibuprofen to ease the pain and any swelling.
I let my uncle pee on me all the time to get hold of rid of it.
I always find Vaseline soothing on sunburn...
