For those parents doing the single dose (separated) MMR?
How are you getting it? Does your pediatrician carry them in office? Do you hold to order from the manufacturer?
I've contacted a pharmacy in my nouns that could get them for me, but they said I would have to buy the whole carton, a box of 10, at $200 per shot!
The ingredients in the separated shot are the same as the combo shot, so separating them doesn't do anything other than spread out the virus themselves.
Another option that isn't as costly is to just delay the first MMR until your child is 2 years older. He'll have less of a chance for a response that way.
You could always check titers first (you should do this before the second shot if you procure the first) because he may not need them at all.
after my oldest daughter reacted badly to vaccination, i am against "routine" shots, especially with the ridiculous schedule they have immediately (chicken pox!?? STD vaccine for newborn!?? HPV - which doesn't even do what they claim!??).
i don't know if it's a coincidence or not but my oldest daughter, now 23, has asperger's - either that or she's get tourette's syndrome AND ocd AND adhd AND a sleep disorder AND anorexia syndrome AND...AND...AND.
my youngest, who is 2-1/2yrs old, took the first shot well - bounced back right away. the second shot, she be "off" for over a day. the third shot took her nearly a week to get back to everyday and that's when i pulled the plug on the whole thing.
unfortunately, surrounded by most cases, anything shot-wise you want to do that not "routine" will cost and cost big.
Answers: I have always heard that breaking the MMR up into seperate shots carrys and even superior risk of side effects than doing the 3 in 1.
I asked about separate shots and be told you can't get them where I live. I just wait til he was 18 months to get him the shot and all go fine.
