Hey! What Have You Got Against T.V?
I see a lot of parents on here say "No, no, no." to television. Whats the big buy and sell? Whats wrong with television? It is NOT a babysitter. That I wouldnt do. BUT, in my house, t.v. is on 24/7. My kids LOVE small screen and actually gain from it. All 3 of them are certified geniuses. They have well-mannered taste, too. Im not talking about 24 hours of "Little Einsteins" any. Im talking "Family Guy" "My Name Is Earl" "The Tick" "Monty Python" "Ernie Kovacks" "3 Stooges" "Myth Busters" "Twilight Zone" "Yo Gabba Gabba" "Wonder Pets" "Sponge Bob" "Gilligans Island" "Sanford And Son" They also are obsessed with "Discovery" and "History" channel, so whats the big deal?
My oldest boy wants to be a movie director and writer, my middle son wants to be a mode designer and performer and my baby girl is just as entertaining as adjectives get out. All 3 are brilliant, so whats the big deal?!!
I agree next to you. My boys each have a TV in their room and they occasionally watch it. They love Discovery and History channel too. My son's social studies teacher be telling me at conferences that he is shocked at how much my son knows about history, even little details. It's because they view that channel so much.
My kids have always watch TV and I am a lover of TV as well. I usually DVR everything so I can skip commercials LOL.
In the summer we hardly watch anything during the daylight as we are usually out at the beach or the park or someplace but I tape the shows I like and survey them at night when we are around.
I always hear parents saying how it's discouraging to put a TV in their room because then you'll never see them. Well I guess those are parents with no control over their kids or something because contained by my house I make the rules and my kids follow them so I don't have to worry roughly speaking that sort of thing happening. Now that my boys are getting older we are finding things that we enjoy in common and we are watching a lot of things together which is nice.
well, i grew up watching a lot of tv. i scholarly about sex at an early age since i'd watch tv and plentifully of teen shows when i was under the age of ten. i don't want to expose my future children to too much tv as they grow because they develop unquestionable ideas about things that should be first exposed by a parent or teacher.
Answers: I have zilch at all against tv BUT we don't have the cable turned on from early spring until unpaid fall simply because no one is home enough or interested adequate in it to keep the expense.
Edit: Hmmmm..not too sure about getting married, but a movie would be fine and dandy, as long as it's not one of those sappy movies, it have simply got be a horror or action flic :).
Edit: Sounds good, zilch like watching a flic that not only rises the dead but one meshed w/extraterrestrials as powerfully, not to mention seeing the old time special effects.
Edit: Definitely, the more the merrier :D
I COMPLETELY agree! I learn more from TV than I do from reading books... and this is coming from a straight A AP student. I get an 11/12 on my SAT critical lens essay by writing about an episode I saw of King of the Hill. I learned a lot of existence lessons from watching the Twilight Zone as well. Unforutunately, I guess some people of late like to be party poopers.
YES!! Thank you for asking this. I'm so sick of inhabitants giving Tv a bad wrap just because it's abused by lazy general public. You can get a lot from TV. I think the shows you mentioned are some of the greatest in attendance are. And they ARE fine for small children. What they do't need is graphic sex and violence- but a little crude and pitch-black humor never hurt anybody.. well except idiots. But your kids are clearly not idiots.-good job!
i say nothing! our tv is almost other on but that doesn't mean they always watch it. i've knowledgeable if i shut it off i hear nothing but can watch tv please please can i? so i go away it on and they just run around with it on in the perspective. i'm a reality tv junkie and now so is my 4 year old. so i don't tolerate him watch that as much after he started pretending to be flavor flav..lol not to mention my son is pale as can be with red quill asking for a clock necklace
I have undeniably not problem with television. My four year old's favorite shows are Bones and CSI:NY. She loves the crime solving thing, think David Boreanaz is *cute* and she wants to marry him. (and, she blushes). We always watch these shows together so we can confer about what's happening. They're intelligent shows with a strong sense on equality and values.
I don't let her watch things like Hannah Montana, though. The girls behave as if she's retarded, and millions of other little girls will mirror it. If my daughter's going to watch tv, it has to be something decent.
She like History channel, but not much of Discovery.
She probably watches too much tv, but I don't care. She's bright, fun, intelligent, sensible... if she wants to enjoy fun watching tv, I won't deny her that.]
EDIT: I don't mind when my child is "exposed" to things we can talk about. I will avoid more sexual shows, like Grey's Anatomy, not because of the sex member, but because the sexual behavior of those characters (everyone sleeps with everyone) is not she's mature enough to get the drift. However, crime shows are absolutely fine with me. We talk *a lot* give or take a few the crimes, and motives, and justice, and right and wrong.
"Family Guy"?, "My name is Earl"? for kids? are you CRAZY? all my 4 year old watches is Sesame Street and Clifford and Sometimes Barney or Dora or Olivia, and my 3 year dated isn't into tv yet
I dont think nearby is a problem with TV because it stimulates the brain when they are younger, but if your child turns into a couch potato I would disagree. My mother let us watch TV as much as we considered necessary also but the majority of the time we chose to play outside or with our toys. Parents think just because a kid watches TV their gunna turn into slothful bums and thats not true at all
it's not how much t.v. they watch.ITs the christian values I want them to learn
as long as they are not couch potatoes I see no problems with tv . I have a 4 year antediluvian that wants to grow up to marry Judge Judy. She will be around 100 year old then, but deeply rich, so I will support that! LOL
I have an issue with babies or toddlers watching profoundly of TV. It's really not good for their development. I would much rather my son be doing something busy at this age.. (he's 10 months.)

Once they are old enough to understand Discovery or History drain I think it can be a great tool. I just worry in the region of conditioning babies from birth to watch TV. & honestly... I'd rather my son grow up doing better things with his time than sitting around staring at a TV peak. You know childhood obesity rates would be SOOO much lower if parents limited TV/video game/computer time. I think it's in a state how inactive some kids are these days. That said, I don't think TV is evil. I reason once they are older it's fine in moderation. It's not about TV man wrong.. to me it's about what is BEST. & I don't see vegging your childhood away on the couch as best.
EDIT: & of course you think your children are brilliant! everyone does! .. adjectives of us have the cutest kids too.. and most are gifted, haha
EDIT: I never said your children were obese. I said "childhood flabbiness rates would be SOOO much lower if parents limited TV/video game/computer time"... don't assume every broad, sweeping statement is about you. It's a bit narcissistic, lol.
Nice, Family Guy is the best.
I don't know why parents are so anal about tv sometimes. I don't think it's a big deal. I just have the tv just because it's background resonance. :)
