Do your kids own cell phones?

My 10 year old step-son has a cell phone but that's because his mother got it for him. She didn't relay him not to add apps and such and in 1 month he charged $175 for games and ring-tones. She wants us to chip within some money because he lives with us and he did the charges while in our custody.

Do you think we should hold to pay?

We never took the time to show him what not to do and neither did she. We never told her to get him the phone in the first place. We told her to buzz past its sell-by date and it's her responsibility but he did do it while living with us. Who's responsible?
My opinion is that she bought the phone, its her responsibility. I dont own a problem with kids having cell phones, but she should have gotten a plan that can allow her to cut-off date his spending, or gotten a phone that doesnt have all that stuff on it.
someone should have taken the time to show him how to use it and explained that he be not to add games etc.
She bought the phone for him and i assume she's got the bill he's ran up on it. It would own made more sense to buy a pay as you go phone then once the allowance have gone it's gone and he gets no more untill the next month.
she is responsible for the charges...
just because he lives next to you i dont think you should pay for is games he and his mother should pay for it and he should spend approach less money than he does $175 a month is a lot for cell phone aplications
Answers:    i definitely think that she should own to pay for it. I mean, she was the one that bought him the phone. if she keep on insisting on you paying for it, maybe you can split it and then take the money away from your stepson by adjectives off his allowance, or make him work around the house to help foot it off. then call anything service you use and have them put a block on the phone.

my daughter is 9, and i am thinking about getting her a cell phone, but i want it to be one of the ones made for children, like kajeet. these allow you to put the numbers surrounded by that they can call, and also allow you to keep track of the spending.
