Kids wanting to play grown-up online?
If your 10-12 year old child came to you requesting that you help them acquire a facebook, myspace, myyearbook or doesn`t matter what other sights of this sort are out there, would you? What type of ethics do you feel you would be culture your child to throw out the window IF you were to allow them to acquire one (considering many of these sites require you to be 13 or older)? Would you know how to justify picking and choosing the rules you expect your child to acknowledge?
No. Source(s): mom of an 11 year old who doesn't have a FB account and won't for a while even so.
I would let them. I would set up age blocks and some serious ground rules. Kids should one and only have access to computers when the parents are in close proximity. Our computer is in our dinning room and my kids will never be allowed a computer surrounded by their room or a room that a door can be shut.
I think it is imperative that you teach children internet safety and he honest give or take a few what type of people are out there. My biggest ground rule would be is I need to hold all access codes. There is no such thing as privacy when I am trying to keep my children locked.
Answers: My 12 yr old has a youtube justification. He is into magic and some other things and he likes to make video of his magic tricks. He is very computer savvy and he is a straight A student. I think it depends on the kid and what they want it for. My son doesn't "play grown up" online. I know his password and I maintain an eye on him. I've taught him about internet safety and he know that he has to run every video by me before uploading it and so forth.
My daughter get a Myspace at age 12
And I didnt mind and I still dont.
But I did tell her that she cant put her
address or where we live on there and that her
profile requirements to be private.
Let your child get a social network.Make sure that their profile/pictures/etc. is PRIVATE!!Check their profile once a week to make sure zilch "fishy" is going on.If they are doing things they aren't suppose to do then DELETE their account and ban them from getting another one until they are 18!
