Alright fellow moms, a question almost living situations?
Our lease is up at the end of this month, and my SO and I are having a hard time figure out what to do next. By that I mean my SO wants to move contained by with another couple to save money. His hours got cut to segment time because business is slow lately, so he's working only about 30 hours per week. I work full time, but am in the process of finding a better charge because my benefits are getting cut.
I think we should just move in to a cheaper place and bring back rid of the non essentials, like cable and internet and the phone line. He, on the other hand, think we should move in with another couple. We have a 6 week prehistoric daughter, and frankly I am just not okay with this. He wants to move within with his best friend, his wife and their son, and his reasoning (aside from the money) is that they're "practically family anyway."
Tell me I'm not crazy for not wanting this at all. I love the other home, but living with them? It's just screaming dorms all over again. I go through college and really don't want to live with roommates again--I'd feel like smaller number of a family. If I am crazy and he's right, Why?
I don't like the idea of our daughter sharing a room beside their 15 month old son, either. It's just grotesque in my opinion. I'd love to come up with some sort of compromise--any concept??
Hmm... tough telephone... Sounds like it'd be all peachy keen. Too fruitless reality isn't so great.
Back when I was young and first married, back I even had my son, my ex (did you catch that? EX?) thought it would be a great idea to agree to his best bud and his new wife, plus their 2 yr old stay with us for awhile while they save up money to get their own place.
It was awful! I am not the neatest person surrounded by the world. Far from it. But they drove me nuts. Leaving dirty diapers laying around to smell, never cleaning up after themselves, not disciplining the hellion they were raising, not offering to uphold their winding up of the financials with us. Various little petty stuff, that wouldnt' have bothered me, had they not lived near me.
Living together is easier said than done. And as bad as it was hosting them, I imagine it'd hold been even worse to have moved in near them. To not only have those same conflicts, or worse ones, but to have feel beholden to them, or afraid I had to hold my tongue because it wasn't my place to say something.
You aren't crazy, your best bet, is probably to cut back for awhile, and regroup.
Best bearing to stay friends is to not become roommates. Been there, done that.
I liked them soooooo much better before we shared living space, after that, here was no going back.
I agree, get a cheaper place and get rid of the cable, internet and other non-essentials until you can get subsidise on your feet...I would not move in with the other family no matter what! Too much drama
Hell no your not crazy, he is. I would NEVER move my family in near another family. Imagine the conflicts you had back surrounded by college when it was just you and your roommates. Now add husbands and children. I would to some extent move into a studio apartment and live on Ramen noodles than have another entire family as roommates. it's just going to rationale problems and ruin your friendships. I've had a lot of roommates and I've learned it's the small everyday things that will drive you nuts. What if they aren't as verbs? What if the other girls husband throws his q-tips on the floor? What if they eat up all your groceries and don't replace them? What if their baby cries non-stop and drives you nuts? What if he like to watch sports during Top Chef? lol. not gonna work.
Well...
If you do move surrounded by I feel that your child should be in your room (because you're not alone and even if it was kith and kin I'd want my child closer to me) so that you can keep an eye on her and 2 babies may keep each other up...
From personal experience even the best relationships beside family or friends suffer when living very close for extended periods of time.
I approaching your idea to cut back and find a cheaper place, you can stay with them contained by case you need some extra time to find another apt...but still talk it over next to your SO because you both have to agree other wise you'll create tension for you to. Dont hold subsidise on your feelings if you really dont want to move in with the friends
you are not crazy i agree this won't be good for your family
BAD IDEA!
If you all move contained by together you won't be friends for very long. I love my friends, but I would never, ever live with any of them now that we adjectives have families.
You are going to want things to be a certain method and so will your friend. You are going to get sick of her kid crying and she will feel the same mode about your child. You will both start telling your husbands about it privately and this will effect stress in their friendship.
I can't believe a grown man would think this is a good conception!
I say you are 100% right on this one. Move somewhere cheaper, get better jobs and cut subsidise on things that you don't really need. That's what you do when you are a grown up.
Answers: living with others is always hard and you could cessation up in a much worse situation. No one needs the added Drama. As for them being approaching family that's even worse!
Move into a smaller place cut back on things like cable T.V. and Internet. You can also pick up money by cutting driving time (carpooling public transit or walking) buy things like diapers in bulk, sign up for diaper and formula coupons, cut put money on on expensive unhealthy foods and grow your own apartment garden to save on costs. Cut down on heating and cooling costs a bit.

LIVING WITH ANOTHER COUPLE IS ALWAYS HARD. BOTHER OF YOUR RELATIONSHIPS WILL EFFECT THE OTHER AND A NEW MOM WITH A MOM WHO HAS BEEN THROUGH IT BEFORE WILL CAUSE FRICTION. I HATE TO SAY IT BUT IN MY OPPINOIN A PLACE FOR JUST YOU AND YOUR FAMILY IS A BETTER IDEA. BESIDES IF YOU TRY IT ON YOUR OWN AND IT DOESNT WORK THEN YOU COULD TRY THE ROOM MATE THING BUT MY THOUGHT ON THAT IS STILL ONLY AS A LAST RESORT
