I mull over my 21month have the croup?
My son has such a really bad cough sound resembling a smokers cough or someone who has the flu, Very running nose His breathing sounds like he have a whistling, or hissing sound also croaky,he wakes up at dark crying, I've taken him to see the doctor yesterday but she said he was fine!! which i don't understand how, Its been going on for 5-6days nows. is near anything i can do to help my son? Any Advice would be great thanks, Or should i take him to see another doctor?
The croup is TOUGH and can repeatedly turn into something worse.
Take him into the bathroom and run the shower, turn it on hot and let the steam come out. That will open up the mucus in his throat!
Get a humidifier for his room, and if it gets really bad, start a hot shower and pinch him in the bathroom to breathe in the steam, and that should help clear his lungs.
Good luck!
Answers: My oldest daughter have had croup three times in her life. The first two times she have the classic seal sounding bark that is the communicate tale sign of croup. The Doctor gave her a one dose medication (not antibiotics) which knocked it on the leader fairly quickly. The last time she have croup was far more frightening however, she woke up and couldn't breathe very well, but no classic croup yelp cough. She did have the stridor though (stridor - noisy breathing and difficulty inhaling ) Treatment was matching with just one dose.
All three doctors told me that croup can be very serious specially if a 'stridor' is present and not checked. I was told that the hot shower at home is no longer recommended for croup as people were getting scalded through accident etc, etc, etc. The Docs also indicated that croup should always be checked by a medical professional and not treated at home. I would definitely recommend that you take your little one to a different doctor. Croup is not as safe as it is often thought to be.
Baby centre (link - http://www.babycentre.co.uk/baby/health/… has an article on croup.
Also, do you hold a health nurse telephone service where you live. In Australia adjectives states have a 24 hour service staffed by nurses/midwives that can advise on medical conditions and make recommendation.
I always go by the motto that it is better to be safe than sorry. If I enjoy to annoy several doctors to get good health attention and peace or mind then so be it!
Good luck and I hope your little one is on the mend soon.
