How out-of-date do you own to be to babysit?
The legal age will depend on where you live. There are lots of guidelines available but most areas do not enjoy a certain age. For me personally, the maturity of the babysitter would offset just the age.
Where I live, it is legal to babysit a sibling up to three years younger than yourself at the age of ten or older. At twelve, it is legal to babysit anyone for any amount of time. By decree, but maturity rules.

Some 13-year-olds are more mature than some 16-year-olds. So I wouldn't necessarily go by chronological age.
Call your local Red Cross, and see if you can sign up for a CPR class. My daughter also took their babysitting class. I let her babysit when she be 13, because she was mature enough to fiddle with it.
