Can Infants on a soy-based formula still capture colic?

My 12 day old baby have kept my mother and I up for the past four days with her incessant screaming from either gas build up or colic.
She is on the Similac Isomil Advance beside Iron.
We have yet to talk to our doctor because we are waiting til 7/30 because that's when our subsequent baby appointment is.
Does anyone know if its possible for soy-based formula fed infants to get colic?
if so, what are some remedies.
I found the following on here:
Colic Calm
Star Anise
Little Tummies Gas Drops
Liquid Acidophilus
and placing them on their back propped against my knees and making it like they're on a bicycle
The reason for soy formula is because of a dairy protein allergy, not to avoid colic. Breastfed, formula fed and soy feed babies can all have it.
Have you tried stopping every 1/2oz or so to burp? It may not be colic and may be plain old gas.
Also for some point my formula fed baby reacted extremely badly to the DHA ARA blend in the formula and I switched her to the formula that didnt have it, then give her the supplement from Enfamil.
PS unless there is a valid dairy protein allergy or lactose intolerance (more rare than dairy protein allergy) the baby really should be on standard formula.
Yes babies feed any type of formula is more likely to be colicy than breast fed babies. You can call your Pediatricians bureau and leave a message for a nurse practitioner to call you back. They will contribute you advice on what to do or move your appointment up if they feel it is necessary.
Answers:    Yes - alot of the research now says that colic is in actual fact a milk protein allergy. Most babies who are allergic to milk proteins are also allergic to soy. So the only way to avoid the "colic" symptoms and help baby's tummy is to use a "hypoallergenic" formula such as Allimentum by Similac, or Nutramigen by Enfamil.
I would telephone the DR and describe the symptoms and see if they can give you a sample of the formula to try at home before you budge in for the appt.
At your appt. they can do a simple test for milk protein allergy - just ask.

So sorry to hear in the order of you LO - it's so hard when they are this age and cannot just tell us what's wrong. Just remember that "this too shall pass" and you are doing a honest job trying to take care of your infant. My babe-in-arms was on that same formula and was always crying a fussy. He would never sleep and be never happy. I put him on Similac Soy and Gripe Water and he is a happy camper! It totally changed him. It took a good week for him to adjust but when he did it be great. He is ten weeks and started sleeping through the night at 7 weeks (8-9) hours! As for the colic.i'm not sure. Best of luck to you!
resourcefully idk. my daughter would take similac too the blue one to be exact and she would do that but when i changed her to soy milk, she's been better now and plus i breastfeed too.
"Colic" is species of a catch-all phrase for a baby that is fussy. It can have heaps causes. It could be a lactose allergy or sensitivity, or it could be a problem with the milk protein, both of these problems can be solved by switching formula. (Soy if it's a lactose problem, Alimentium if it's a protein problem.)
Anther cause can be sour reflux, and the baby doesn't necessarily vomit when they have reflux. My baby have it, and her symptoms were that she was very gassy, amazingly fussy right after eating, and her poop was greenish instead of mustard yellow. She wasn't spitting up profusely, but just cried basically all the time she wasn't asleep or intake. It took us a while to figure out what the problem was.
My pediatrician prescribed a medication for it, and it has made a big difference near her.
Your baby is only 12 days old, and babies that age enjoy to eat very frequently, so if you're not feeding her on emergency during the day, she will keep you up all darkness. That is especially true if she was on the small side at birth.
You might want to go ahead and make an appointment sooner next to your doctor. It's only a few days sooner. It's really hard when you can't get the sleep you entail. Good luck!
