Flat/inverted nipple and breastfeeding?

I'm just wondering if its possible to bring my nipple out whilst pregnant so I can breastfeed this time around. My left nipple is normal but my right seem flat and barely comes out when I pull it it feels approaching the skin will tear. I had to express feed by ultimate two babies but I found my milk dried up without the contact. Does anyone have any ideas?
I have an inverted nipple and using a nipple sheild helped draw it out for breastfeeding

the simply down side for me was this:
you are supposed to wean your child off the nipple sheild after a couple weeks
my son became dependent on the nipple sheild to latch,
so at 5 months, he still uses it
Babies can breastfeed just fine with mothers who have flat nipples. It is far-reaching to know that babies do not nipple feed they breast feed. A good LC can back show you how to grab your breast in a hold that will offer satisfactory tissue to the baby so that he can latch on. Once the baby starts to suckle he will change the form of the teat contained by his mouth. Make an appointment with a LC and she can help you. Some women who have truly inverted nipples may experience some discomfort as the baby is nursing because the tissue of the nipple is tight and when the baby suckles it draws it out.

There are products that you can buy to draw out the nipple but most LC's do not recommed the use of these products because some studies have in fact showed that when mothers used these prodcuts before delivery they had a complex incident of weaning before the mothers who didn't use the products.
A nipple shield can be used for babies who are having difficulties. but this will be the last resort for a LC and it is celebrated to have follow up with a LC during the use of a nipple shield.

Please feel free to email me if you own any other questions Source(s): lactation counselor - just took the IBCLC exam - have to hang around till october now for the results.
try to put something cold on it or play w/ it for a min to make it hard...
I have to use nipple guards when I first started breast feeding. You put it around your nipple, it is strange it looks just like a nipple. Very cool though. You can't even touch that it is on.
Answers:    You can use a nipple shield, it'll draw your nipple out for feed.
