Can postpartum depression really progress this far?

omg..i read this and was sick to my stomach. I didn't post this to upset any pregnant or new mothers, Does post partum depression really lead women to do this?? If I have a baby, I could NEVER imagine harming he/she surrounded by anyway--especially like that!
I live in SA and heard almost this. It's horrible! My son is 2 1/2 months and I could never imagine hurting him in any way. I hope they sentence this woman to death row! She deserves it!
This is not PPD, this is a different condition called Post Partum Psychosis - which affects less than 1 in 10,000 women.
Post Partum depression is drastically common, however PPP is very rare, It can be, and habitually is, very very serious, and resembles schizophrenia in its moral fibre - the women often hear voices, often their little one, and genuinely believe the baby to be possessed/evil etc.
To be honest this woman had a LOT of underlying mental problems, however postpartum psychosis can arise to anyone, and while you could never imagine harming your baby, while within the grip of this condition its like any other serious mental condition - that you are not in control.
What this woman did was frightening, however i doubt she will go to jail - more likely section to a mental institution for an undefined period of time.
try to feel sympathy for this woman fairly than anger (although its very hard.) She geniunely had outstandingly little control of her actions, although they were horrific.
It can become especially serious if not treated.
I suspect a predisposition to mental illness surrounded by combination with post partum depression.
I think that is to say the sickest most heartbreaking thing i have ever read. But yes PPD can become very severe if treated. But I suspect that women had a history of mental illness.
It can, yes. PPD can turn into a psychosis, it can be very nasty.
Answers: yes, it can go into post partum psychosis. you're right, no mother in their right mind would ever damage their child -- some women are not in their right mind though. that woman didn't know what she was doing and she absolutely wasn't surrounded by her right mind. she doesn't need to be sentenced to death, she needs lend a hand and she needs to be away from people for the rest of her life. I grain bad for her, I feel bad for the babe, I feel bad for her family.
it's a shame she didn't acquire the help she needed post partum. the baby was 3 weeks old-fashioned -- she didn't wake up one day and decide to do that. populace like that cannot help themselves, they need help out from the people around them. in a society where depression and psychosis is looked down upon, I'm NOT surprised something approaching this happened. it's awful and disgusting, yes -- I'm not downplaying it. I just don't think we should find.
WOW! That is crazy! I've never heard of anything that bad but honestly, it doesn't surprise me at the moment.
