Can i cart BACTRIM DS while bf?
i was prescribed bactrim ds and was told it was ok to whip while breastfeeding but i looked it up on The Pill Book and it said it was not safe to take because of the possible effect on the newborn infant..
i am bf my 1 month matured.. and the antibiotics is for a UTI..
Did your OB/GYN prescribe the RX? If so, then it is ok. EVERYTHING you take goes into your breastmilk, but the amout is never really specified. The amount of your medicine is most likely low and the benefits outweigh the risk. If you are still hesitant, ask your pharmisist, they know also.

It's important to weigh up the option. If your UTI gets worse your immune system gets run down and you can become more susceptible to flu's/colds/other infections/kidney failure etc. Then your milk supply and level will drop or you will be too sick to bf at all.
Take the antibiotics to keep you healthy. Make sure you give somebody a lift probiotics (acidophilus) so as to stay healthy after and drink tons of water.
Also, since they you tend to be more susceptible once you've had one, be sure to shift pee after sex...sounds weird, but it helps.
I have have a couple of UTI's and know how painful they can get. My mother just lost a kidney to one that she overlooked for a long time as the infection moved up. Take the drugs, your baby will be fine and there will be no long term effects. You'll be a improved happier mum for it!!
