Breastfeeders, what do you do when?
Hi, What do you do when your nipples are so sore you don't think you can feed from them?
Ive been breastfeeding since sunday and right in a minute I feel like I cant handle her feed off me again, I obviously will keep feed her!!
I saw midwife today and sorted out any issues we had but now Im just trying to preserver until my nipples can button it.
Do what you be aware of is best. Obviously you are having way too much trouble from your previous question , I ruminate you are just continuing it now because people are judgemental! If you really want to, hold on to trying, and go see a lactation specialist, but don't feel guilyif you want to quit, formula isn't poison!
I had matching thing happen to me. I wasn't told how to properly breastfeed my daughter so I would brestfeed on one nipple for too long and she was an aggressive sucker so I have broken, bleeding breasts most of the time.
Please get some Lanisinoh breast cream and keep putting that on your nipples relgiously. You can find that at any major pharmacy or similar to Wal-Mart, Target or Walgreens too.
Also, look into getting some nipple shields. They aren't expensive and they cover the nipple and allow time to heal while you're breastfeeding. They aren't expensive at all.
Also, look online for proper positions, because I found out, usually when you aren't positioning the baby properly, or latching them to your breast properly, you hurt profusely more.
And don't keep your baby on one breast for too long. Try switching up breasts so that one breast isn't getting beat up more than the other.
If none of those work, start pumping instead until they perceive better.
Good Luck!
Use lansinoh gel. I promise that after about 2 weeks they will be fine - 4 weeks now and no pain - my nipples be so sore they scabbed over! Now it's lovely. In the meantime, just bite down hard on something!
I feel your pain.my son be born january 2009 and within one week I had blisters and scabs on both nipples... have you talk to a lactation consultant? There was one at the hospital that gave me these nipple shells that let your nipples seize air in between feedings, those along with medela lanolin save me... stay strong, it gets better with time. btw, some people will voice it won't hurt unless the baby isnt latched correctly, but my son latched perfect and I still had those problems
Make sure you have a honourable latch and if not take her off and try again. When you are done express for a time bit of colostrum or milk and let it dry on your nipples. Lanolin cream is also am VERY good investment.
Aww congrats! I used to see you in the pregnancy clause :)
Keep feeding her. It does get a LOT better the more you continue doing it. Have you get sone Lansinoh cream? It worked wonders for me! Also give your nipples some air, just sit here without a bra on. You could try wet teatowels put in the fridge, next put them on your nipples. Also hand express some milk and rub it in them too, that helps.
It be so painful for me at first but it got better in time :) hold at it, you're doing so well!
feed her from a bottle
yes u can do it
You could use lanolin. Try pumping and giving your baby expressed milk for a feeding or two. Some relations are against it, but I believe it is good to give yourself a break. It's better than quitting breastfeeding b/c it hurts. If you don't want to give a bottle try a cold compress on your nipple since and after a feeding. Keep feeding her. Get some nipple cream. Your nipples will get tougher and it will get MUCH easier.
i used that landolin cream or whatever and used the nipple gel packs they make (can carry from wal greens or wal mart) You can put them in the freezer and they get real cold and discern nice on you. Other than that i just sucked it up. baby had to guzzle and i wanted to bf so i did.
Good news ! They won't hurt for long (at least i didn'tZ and they won't hurt much longer.
Its flawless that you saw your midwife, I am sure that she told you all about different holding positions and how to have her latch on farther within on the breast so she is not just sucking on the end. If not, parents.com has some honest videos.
Put breast milk on them, and let them air out completely after respectively feeding. It will get better, and it is worth it! Every mom I talk to go through this, and after they persevere they say how happy they are that they stuck next to it!
I know your headache! I have a 3-wk old and OH MY! when I first started I thought I couldn't do it anymore, my nipples were cracked and one be even bleeding, but I bought some Bella Bee nipple cream and it works wonders! I also bought a breast pump, and that helped out a lot too, but just save feeding her... it WILL get better. Good luck!
Answers: LANOLIN LANOLIN LANOLIN!
Also a put some ice on mine, I don't know if your supposed to or not but it helped tons!
I just fed through the pain, and after he be done eating I would put a crap load of lanolin (or whatever) on my nipple to sooth the pain. The headache eventually went away, and I'm still breastfeeding my five month old son.
OK you are so not on your own... especially with the first baby. My first was a NIGHTMARE! I be in the NCT and it helped enormously and kept me going as they said maintain going for at least 2 weeks - the pain was awful! It did carry better and I nursed my son through 5 months so it does get better - just check positioning and try the remedies people suggest but I need I had been prepared for how difficult it was.. I very soon run a new baby coffee meet once a week and you wouldn't believe how oodles mums have the same problem! Breastfeeding isn't "just natural" for the majority of mums! Anyway it does go and get easier, the nipples will heal, the best thing is milk on the nipples (soaked breast pads help me but you may find something else helps).
Give it a time - a couple of weeks if you can handle it. By the way if you do give up don't consistency guilty... but keep going for two weeks - this is what we recommend as it is usually a turning point and gives you a goal. Best of luck. hold contained by there

I went through like exact thing. My solution? Pump exclusively. The baby gets the benefits of breastmilk short the problems of breastfeeding :)
I feel the same way for the first couple months of feeding my child.
I used Motherlove brand nipple cream, which helped, and these cool packs the hospital gave me (that I mull over Medela sells, too), and I hired a lactation consultant. Even moms who didn't have "issues" told me that the first couple weeks were pretty rough &/or sore, so I knew I had to give it at tiniest that long. Then, each week after that I'd tell myself, "just donate it at least another week and see if it gets better" and in my mind it did draw from a little better each week and I stuck with it.
It turned out that I have thrush, so no matter how well my baby latched it be painful until that was diagnosed and treated.
You can do it. I wish you and your newborn the best! Source(s): Happily nursing my 10 and 1/2 month old, but was totally in your shoes.
use nipple shields n lansinoh cream they work fantastically together only just use the sheilds for couple days with the cream n u should be a lot more confortable,,, good luck hope this help xxx
from a mum of 3 xxxx
Lanolin! and hot showers. Tylenol helps too
use a breast pump.
I've heard you can try to put BM on your nipples and just nouns them out. If you're able to stay at home all day, lately don't wear a shirt. I remember how this feels. I'm happy that you saw your midwife to get serve instead of just giving up. Once she has a better latch and your nipples heal, it will walk a lot easier!
i bottle nurture for a couple feedings just to give them a break
when i first started breastfeeding i didnt suppose id make it through. im 24 and my group of friends have only started having babies and one by one each of them gave it up. its tough. my nipples be really sore at first, then the turned white, then they blistered then they scabbed, cracked, bled, u describe it. i would literally hold my breath and clench my teeth when she would latch on. i would cry it hurt so bad and my husband begged me to quit. but i was determined and stuck it out. my babe-in-arms girl will turn one in a month and has never had a bottle im proud to enunciate. it doesnt just get better in a few weeks, it get great. u will form a bond with ur baby that cant be broken. im actually wounded that im having to wean chloe in a few weeks. get some lansinoh, some bra pad and i hate to say it, but the more u pay the better, and someone to get the impression sorry for u. my husband did, and it made me feel better. lol! my experience ended up wonderful so dont give up! btw my newborn has not been sick once since birth thanks to bfeeding!
I have this problem and my lactation consultant recommended nipple shields/guards. You can wear them over your nipples and still feed your baby while giving your breast a little rest. Its completely middle-of-the-road for nipples to be sore when beginning breastfeeding because they have to get tough and capture used to the baby's sucking. However, it is not normal you to be in pain or for them to stop bleeding. I academic that my son wasn't latching on completely and his bottom lip would pierce my nipple. Once the lactation consultant told me that, we got him latched on correctly and I breastfeed him for a year without pain. Stay prompted because its absolutely worth it for you and baby Source(s): Mother of 2 breastfeed and healthy children
Huuuuge blob of Lansinoh nipple cream on before respectively feed..or take the easy choice like I did & express milk to give in a bottle. I afterwards put baby back on the breast after several weeks & it didn't hurt at all. My with the sole purpose downfall was I expressed way too much & had tons of milk. Good because I could freeze some but babe choked on me when feeding as it came out too fast. I am still feed expressed breast milk at 4 months!
You are a short time ago starting to breastfeed and it will take a little bit for your nipples to get in synch. Try some Lansinoh oil. It worked for me. That and get breast pads for your bra. Not have breast pads to shield your nipples from the roughness of your bra contributes to sore cracked nipples. I know, I had to learn the sturdy way.
You can buy Lansinoh at any discount mega store or grocery store. The same with Lansinoh pads. I used Lansinoh because you don't own to wash it off because it is made from natural products. Experiment next to breast pads though, one might be better for you than another depending on how sore your nipples are.
