Is an infant breathing monitor essential for paranoid moms?

I'm 32 weeks pregnant and have a paralyzing fear that my baby will die of SIDS once he is born. I be wondering if an infant breathing monitor is a wise or unwise investment; I know that false alarms are likely to sort me more paranoid than ever, but I would love having the piece of mind. Any thoughts or suggestions? Help!?
at this stage of your pregnancy that's pretty normal, i was freaking out give or take a few everything. i also knew that i would keep that monitor thing by my come first and never sleep because i would be listening for her breathing all night. take home sure there are no pillows or bumpers in the crib, no excess blankets or stuffed toys, and the baby requests to be put to sleep on its back, slightly tipped to one side, i used a rolled blanket under the sheet to keep my babe-in-arms on her back but a little to the side in luggage she spit up.
You have to way out the consequences I suppose. I be going to get a breathing monitor, but I decided that it was worth have a heart attack over the false alarms (which I hear happen A LOT). I decided to get that Safety 1st High Def Digital Monitor, and it's amazing! I can hear everything within her room, even her normal breathing. I'd suggest getting a great audio monitor like that, and save yourself from those false alarms.

Also, simply follow the guidelines to help prevent SIDS. No smoking, make baby sleep on his/her spinal column, and don't let it get too hot in the room. And there's certainly nothing wrong with checking on baby within the middle of the night.
I bought one. Or my husband did. He says it will present him peace of mine. And if that's the case, then I am okay with it. But she's still sleeping near us in our room for the first couple of months. And once she goes to her crib I will be using the movement sensor.

This is the one we bought, kind of pricey, but I devise it will be worth it.

I think so.

My daughter was on an apnea monitor, told me if she quit breathing or if her heartrate dropped below a certain number. She be born premature, so it was important that she was on it.

Even though she have more false alarms than actual alarms, I was glad she had one. It made me feel so much better! You will capture false alarms, yes, but if that makes you sleep better at night I'd buy one!

Congrats!
Answers:    Those things will make insane. They tend to go sour at random, so you'll start thinking your baby has some variety of undiagnosed breathing problem like sleep apnea, but it's really only the monitor being stupid. Trust me, wake up at all hours because the breathing monitor alarm is going off is not peace of mind. It's an exercise in alarm. Plus, your baby will probably not appreciate you bursting into the nursery in a panic every hours of darkness.

A normal baby monitor will do ya just fine. Always follow the AAP recommendation for reducing the chances of SIDS. Put your baby to sleep on his/her back, do not use a crib bumper, save pillows and stuffed animals out of the bed, and make sure you get a firm mattress with a snug-fitting sheet. If you're really paranoid, you can use sleep sack and/or swaddling blankets instead of traditional blankets.

I kept both my kids in a bassinet in my bedroom for the first three months, just for peace of mind. And it be easier to get to them for nighttime feedings and diaper changes.

Good luck! Source(s): Mother of two. Used a breathing monitor after moving my first to his own room for about a month since tossing it to spare my sanity.
i get an angel care monitor as soon as my daughter started sleeping on her tummy, i got the one with the sensor wipe, it detect movement like breathing, if theres no movment for like 20 seconds an alarm go off, its actually happenend, i went to check on her and she studious to hold her breath while sleeping, scared the crap outta me, but the fact that its gone off know it works, it was a great peace of mind for me tho hope this helps :)
It'll probably make you more paranoid.

My tot is 8.5 mo. old and I still get up at least once a hours of darkness and check on him. It's the life of being a mother!
You can never be too over protective of your children. I had one when my child was a preemie and on oxygen but i don't think you stipulation one but if you feel you do get one.
I was paranoid nearly the same thing so we got a united breathing/monitor. It worked great. I felt reassured and could go to sleep. There be a couple "false alarms" when she moved too far into one corner or the other but those were rare. After she learned how to roll over on her own, we a moment ago switched over to the regular monitor. It saved me many sleepless nights.
Most likely, but later you'd get even more paranoid if you don't hear it breathing Source(s): http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…
