I in recent times answered this exact Q for someone with a 9 mo. old:
Don't keep trying different routines. You want to pick one routine and stick with it! For weeks.
You tried letting her cry but it didn't work? Well, not really. You "gave in", that's why it didn't work.
Yes, it is hard. Yes, it breaks your heart. Yes, everyone HATES audible range their baby cry. But if you want her to sleep thru, she HAS to learn to do it on her own. Let her cry. Letting a 9 mo. old cry is not going to "hurt" them. You can be in motion in and comfort her on and off, but you need to clear it quick, and let her know you are there, but don't stick around and attain her out of her crib.
Most likely your Dr has said to let her cry.
Most every book will bring up to date you to let her cry.
Yes, babies wake at night, but they should be capable of soothe themselves back to sleep - at least by 9 months! My baby have been doing it since he was 3 months.
I know you want an "easy" solution, but there isn't one. It's up to you to stick near a routine, be firm and leave her in her crib.
Answers: my son didnt start sleeping through the night until he was one ... then he slept through the hours of darkness for a few months and now hates sleep again. It all depends on the child.
