Ferber method while teething?

You do not say what age your son is, but this method is not usually recommended before six months. It is okay to do while teething as long as you have done everything you can for his distress.

Once you have put him down for the night, do not get him out of his cot until the morning. Everytime he cries and you nick him out you are letting him know that if he cries he gets to come out again. When he wakes up and cries, analyse his crying. If he is just whinging and whining and stopping and starting permit him do that. If he is crying solidly let him do it for around four minutes (increase this time every day until you get to ten minutes) beforehand you tend to him. Spend a few minutes calming him down in his cot, do not get him out. Once he have calmed down leave the room again. If he cries when you leave do not turn around just way of walking out. Again, analyse his crying and decide whether you need to tend to him or not (after a few minutes.) If you stick to doing this after around three days he should be sleeping better. The main entity is that you do not take him out of his cot. Everytime you do this you make the problem worse. Just remember YOU are the parent YOU decide when it is time for him to sleep. It is not unreasonable to expect a babe over six months to sleep through the night.

All babies wake during the night and when they do they do a check to receive sure everything is the same. If ANYTHING is different they will cry. If everything is the same they will go spinal column to sleep. If he falls asleep with a dummy, he may be waking realising it isn't there and crying. If he falls asleep near his door open and is able to hear the tv or the family discussion and then wakes later and everything is stillness he will cry. If he falls asleep with music or a light on it either wants to stay on all night or not be on when he goes to sleep. Just remember he requirements to fall asleep in the EXACT environment he will encounter when he wakes during the darkness.
