A mum I know said she moved out her week outmoded kid to screech for 2.5 hours at darkness. I'm appalled - what should I do?

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do. Some people are strong advocate for the cry it out thing. I never was, honestly. I mean, I become a stay at home mom to care for my baby. If she cries, I'm there.
In certainty, that last time she cried really hard, it turned out she had an ear infection. Poor kid.
first of all to lesa whatever- going away a week old baby to cry for 2 and a half hours is NEGLECT. do you know what forgetfulness means? god, i dont know what i would do. you cant really prove it to CPS but i would certainly try. if the baby be just crying and she was trying to comfort it, then thats one entry. but at a week old, if the baby cried for that long, he/she definitely needed something even if it be just comfort. how could anyone do something like that. i think i would seriously appointment your friend and record the convo and get her to talk in the order of it again and tell someone. i usually never suggest getting cps involved, but this breaks my heart. unbelievable.

Tell her theirs a reason u dont tolerate a baby that small CIO cause they can actually die! When a toddler is left to cry for an extended period of time it greatly increases the risk of SIDS due to their blood pressure sky rocketing and BP goes up breathing get harder..My god 2.5 hours!? Like what she didnt have enough sense to feed the toddler!

While I certainly don't believe in running in within the minute they cry I don't believe in CIO either. I try and wait 5-10 minutes. It depends on the cry the I have a nightmare gets immediate attention, the I don't want to go to bed cry have to wait 10 minutes.
Find articles and print them out for her about how a 1 week dated cannot be spoiled and NEEDS to be attended to constantly.
Every article says that at that age, they need to be taken care of when they cry NOT without being seen. She could really be doing her child harm.
Tell her also that there are studies showing that orphaned babies that don't get plenty attentionm physical one and one time or are left to cry on their own often end up problem children subsequent in life.

Not much you can do. I would just try and be very nice going on for it so as not to turn her off... but try and gently convince her that it might not be a good impression to do that.
That's sad and awful.
Talk to her, maybe she is going through something (not a excuse at all) and if you can maybe offer to embezzle the baby and help her out.
you should explain to her a baby that young merely cries when something is wrong. unless the baby has colic but even then she should still try to soothe her child.

Ask her if she's have trouble, this could be a sign of postpartum depression.
Week old babies are supposed to eat every 2 hours. Why don't you tell her that, afterwards get her some parenting classes.
You never know there may actually be something you can do. You could poke around the govt services and see what they present in terms of parenting classes, she may just not know that babies stipulation to eat every 2 hours, and if she doesn't know that there's a lot more she may not know.
tell her stop one stupid and try to find out why her baby is crying.

You shouldnt do anything. Its her child, not yours. It doesnt sound like she is hurting or neglect her child. Some people just have different parenting styles.
