Table food. Looking for more protein?
My 10mo is on all table foods and I am trying to add more protein in her diet. She is a somewhat picky eater. She basically wants to nurse all the time and will "nibble" on solids and I am trying to make this fun for her. I will put it on her tray, and she will put away a few bites and then throw the rest on the floor. So I am trying to find things with protein in it and "fun" things that she can munch through.
Beans, Cheese, Breads, Pork, egg yolks are all immensely high in protein.
Tofu! My 17-month-old (still) hates meat, but she LOVES tofu. Many babies like it because of its smooth texture. My daughter eat it right out of the package, but you can also saute it in a little olive grease until the outsides turn slightly brown and it develops a thin skin - you'll need the firm or extra firm variety, though, as it's tremendously delicate.
And, of course: beans, yogurt and cheese, egg yolks, any kind of lean meat - adjectives good sources of protein, and all appropriate for a 10-month-old.
Good luck!
ETA: the hummus idea is a great one, too. My daughter loves it as economically. Google "hummus recipe" - it's super easy to make. Source(s): Mama to a 17-month-old.
Answers: Answer : anything YOU eat that has protein... you might be surprised ! I would never have thought mine would similar to hamburger meat cut into pieces, or 100% meat sausages (mildly spiced), or pork slow-cooked on the BBQ. --- However, she is not a really picky eater, even if she does like to swipe everything off her tray. for fun. I just put some more on !
Poached chicken or fish cooked within a little broth with a carrot and a potato are great if she prefers a blander taste. You can bring in your own chicken / fish sticks by dunking pieces first in flour, then eggs, then breadcrumbs and roasting contained by the oven.
I'm not sure, at that age is she allowed tofu ? Cause you could get soft tofu (desserts) and mix with fruit or blend into smoothies.
Also, dairy products like cheese and yogourt also contain protein.
An theory ? Mine won't eat unless we're sitting down and eating too ! And if she already ate and she sees us have dinner, she cries because she wants more...
soak diced tofu (firm) in chicken broth and give it to her to squish and eat. you may also try to nurture her shredded or diced cheese and cooked egg yolks.
Edamame (without the shell) is kid-friendly, though at 10 months I would smush the beans to give them texture, so she doesn't choke on a slippery bean. They can also be blended into mash potatoes.
eggs (just yolk since she is under 12 months), tofu, chicken or other healthy meat (not fish quite yet, unless ok'd by the dr.)
My little guy really liked ham and turkey. He thought they were fun to pick up/play with too! Otherwise hotdishs/casseroles are obedient too! Grill or bake a chicken breast too!
Hummus. I always found my kids like to dip things.
