My husband is allergic to onions and I was wondering what the chances are that my son is allergic to them too. Do allergies run in family? Reason I ask this is because I'm cooking spaghetti and I always cook a pot without onions and with onions. Would it be okay to make a contribution my son some with the onions in it?
I am allergic to the oil in dog fur, and so is my son. He is also allergic to dust particle like his father.

My aunt is allergic to garlic, which is a more common allergy that onions but still pretty rare. None of her children are allergic to garlic (all are grown so they'd know)

The simply way to find out is to try him on them and then keep an eye on him. I am severely allergic to latex, my daughter isn't luckily. So Allergies are not other inherited.

Answers: Allergies don't necessarily run in family but if a parent has an allergy there is an increased likelihood that the child will also. I would donate him the one without onion until you have checked with the dr, unless you are joyful to try. If/when you do try giving your son onion keep a very close eye on him especially for the first 15mins after eating it and if any signs of a counterattack occur seek medical attention immediately. An anaphylactic hypersensitivity can still occur up to a few hours or in rare cases conceivably even longer after but most will be fairly immediate. He could still develop a milder reaction/intolerance over a few days but these are rarely vivacity threatening.
