A conversation from playgroup today..?
I was at Ryan's playgroup this morning (I don't go often).
We got relating to carseats, I was the only mom who still has my son reverse facing. They all seemed to think I be just being over protective. My son is 9.5 months and weighs in the region of 21 lbs. Another person from the playgroup LO is 10.5 months 17 lbs and is already forward facing.
All the other moms were joking resembling I am crazy for keeping my son in the back in the middle backside facing. They went on to say how much of a pain to would be where on earth he can't see mommy from rear facing and to get him in/out of the middle seat would run more time.
I was pretty annoyed.
Where are all my rear facing Moms?!!?
Q- how dated is your LO and are they RF or FF?
My carseat says that a child should be surrounded by the backward facing positions at 20 pounds or 1 year, whichever is longer. In fact, my carseat accommodates up to 30 pounds reverse facing.we have the Britax Roundabout carseat...
I don't think you're crazy or overprotective. You're doing the right thing.
My son is 11 months (one on Friday) and is still flipside facing. He weighed 20lbs 13oz at his 10 month appointment. I always thought it was against the regulation to have a baby under 1 forward facing. I jar on putting him in a forward facing car seat contained by a couple of months. I'm not in any hurry to switch to forward facing because rear facing is the safer. Source(s): Me
I'll be a RF momma! The longer the better right!
Maybe they be just jelous that they don't have the RF pizzazz that you have :) lol.
those mothers are just asking for bigger injuries to their kids if they get within an accident. the safety board has come out near a new study that is suggesting that parents keep their kids surrounded by rear facing untill they are 18 months.
my son is 6 weeks old and in Rear facing, my son wont jump forward before a year. his life is more important later him being able to see me.
Personally, I will keep my daughter rear-facing until her little legs hold to bend to fit. She is 13 months old and 23 pounds. Inconvenience? I think it is better to be safe than sorry.
I go to a car seat checkpoint clinic at the Fire Station in town and I forgot what the NEW guidelines are but it noticeably suggested leaving them RF for longer than suggested before.
See, now that's why I can't stand going to playgroups completely often!
Well your infant is simply the safest of the lot isn't he?
My daughter was turned around 10 months, because she outgrew the rear facing limits of our carseat... (this is lawful in Australia...there is no age restriction, just a bulk restriction). I really wanted to keep her rear facing longer.
But her form is still in the middle.
My daughter will be 1 on the 4th. She is RF. I will keep her reverse facing as long as I can! Her little legs bend! :P
My daughter is 22 months and forward facing. We turned her that way at 13 months. I would have kept her RF for longer but the Hubby wanted her FF.
My son is 7 weeks and RF and I'll hang on to him that way till at least 12 months.
Isn't it a law that they hold to be RF till 12 months anyway?
Answers: Oh, well, they'd really get on me then. Noah is almost 16 months, 26 lbs., and still RF. :) I've done my research and I'd a bit deal with the "pain" of it than the damage it could do.
Know that you're within the right in this situation. I know it's not recommended to turn a baby forward facing until a year and 20+ lbs.(unless your state is different?).
We kept Daniel RF until he was 12.5 months. My sitter thought I was over protective as economically, and she had her son FF at 5 months! 5 MONTHS!! I couldn't believe it.
I made sure she knew if she was taking Daniel anywhere previously we switched him, that he had better be rear facing or I would be very upset.
My little girl is with the sole purpose 9 days old, but will be RF until at least a year. We had to see a video about car seats (we're contained by Oregon) and it said baby must be a year and 20 pounds.
My son is 13 months and rear facing contained by a convertible seat when we drive, which isn't super-often since we don't have a car. But we rent zipcars from time to time. We're going to maintain him rear-facing as long as we can - why not?
We turned out son around at 11.5 months.
We have a Britax marathon, and he simply be too large to sit in it rear facing any longer. His legs be bent at the knees with his feet resting against the seat.
At 14 months immediately he's 30.8 pounds and 34 inches long, wearing 2T or 3T clothes and a size 7 shoe.
Aren't you supposed to keep your baby rear-facing until they're at smallest a year old AND 22lbs?
My 8 month old is 18lbs and still rear-facing.
You're not overprotective. You're smart.
What's the rush for people to put their babies forward-facing, anyway?
My little girl be RF until she was 14 months. She still only weighs 20 pounds at 20 months but she have gotten too long to keep her RF. In Texas they are required to be RF until they are 1 year old and 20 pounds. Not one or the other but both.
You aren't the crazy one.. they are! It is proven to be MUCH safer to RF as long as possible. I didn't turn my 2nd daughter around until she was about 3 years old (she's teeny tiny.. newly now 24 lbs at 3.5 yrs) and my son didn't get turned until 19 months old.
My daughter is 22 months, 22 pounds, and still RF.
I kept both of my kids rear facing until they be 15 months old. Those women are just stupid and, unfortunately, their stupidity can rationale harm to their innocent child if they were ever in a crash.
Just last week my pediatrician said that the law (maybe merely in Texas)has just changed to keep babies within a rear facing seat til they are two. Mine is in a toddler form because the infant seat no longer fits her. She was weighed and measured and she is the size of a one year frail, at only nine months. The shoulder straps are no longer high enough to fit her properly on her infant form so my husband had switched for the larger.but after our visit last week we promptly turned it spinal column to the rear facing position. Dr. said that babies necks and head are not however strong enough, or developed to support an impact in the forward facing position til they reach around two years of age.
I turned big bro's carseat FF at 15 months. I would have kept him RF longer, but we had a boil wave that summer and he didn't get any A/C when his convertible carseat was RF. Source(s): Mom of 2
I didn't go FF until my lil one was over 12 months. He was the required substance at 10 months, but why risk it. And besides, it's the law.
something like 11 months and still RF
I spent 9 months protecting my baby in the womb I'm going to do everything that I can to keep her locked outside it.
i simply followed the guidelines for this but 17lbs isnt big enough to face them forwards and really as long as u arent endangering their time who cares if u r being overprotective. better to be over than under! or r u lately lazy and havent turned it around? eiher way it really doesnt matter as long as they r not detrimental
7 months and still RF for good reason!
You're supposed to dawdle until at least 12 months AND 25lbs (or so I've read on our Eddie Bauer car seat)
I didn't switch my daughter to FF until she hit 12 months old. My daughters RF car seat said 22 lbs on it. Shes simply about 20-21 lbs now. But as far as I know its 22 lbs or one year.
Also, my home visitor told me that RF is the safest and to preserve them that way as long as possible.
My daughter is 15 months and still RF! She weighs 22lb! She does have a FF car form, but I have only used it once!
My elder 2 absolutely stayed rear facing until they were a year. We hold 8mo old twins now and they will stay rear facing until at lowest possible a year. If they are small enough to stay in their infant seats when they turn 1, I will preserve them in them. It is definitely safer.
ughh. I wonder if they'll worry nearly the time it takes them to go to the hospital for months on end because their tot has a spinal cord injury! my son is only 5.5 months and still RF, but I am getting a convertible car form soon that rear faces up to 40lbs. the weight issue for my infant car seat is 22lbs and he's nearing 20 currently... I plan on keeping him rear facing for at LEAST 2 years, and that's the most recent recommendation now anyways. my son doesn't need to see me the unbroken time he's riding in a car. he does need to be undisruptive though. 10.5 months and 17lbs -- ridiculous!
my daughter is 6 months 17 lbs and im getting a convertible carseat that rfs upto 35lbs... and she will rf until then... let them poke fun because obviously THEY don't know the facts... Hopefully it doesn't whip a horrible accident for them to realize!
wow, i meditate you hang around w/ some crazy moms. 9.5 months and forward facing, somebody call the cops on her!
I was told by our doctor to turn our son around when he turned one, (if we wanted) OR we could keep on unit he wasn't comfortable facing back, meaning if his legs be starting to touch the back seat/bent turn him around. So we didn't turn our guy around until 11.5 months when he got too tall.
Our coup¨¦ seat is rated for rear facing to 35 lbs too, but he be too tall. I've read that if you leave them rear facing when they are too elevated and you happen to have an accident they can carry seriously hurt, even brake their legs/hips.
So that's what I think and what we did :)
My son is 11 months old, and still rear facing. He is however, in a convertible carseat in a minute, I bought the Graco Comfortsport, for the mere purpose that I could keep him rear facing longer (up to 40lb I think it goes) He is surrounded by the middle seat as well, too dangerous by the doors next to the airbags these days. I will not flip him until he meets both requirements, 1 year and at least 20 lb. He is almost 18-19 lbs now. I will probably keep him RF as long as he can tolerate it!
You are completely right here! Those other moms are crazy!
My supervisor at work does that to me all the time. She flipped her son impulsive as well, around 9 months. She's like "oh but dont you want to see him" "its sooo fun" This is my response, "I would love to see him while driving, it would be fun, but I would feel so guilty if I get in an accident, and something happened, rear-facing is the safest approach for a baby to sit in a vehicle" The AAP actually recommend it till 2 years of age. I live in the states too, where we have law about that kind of thing!
