Is six months too untimely for cheerios?

Will he choke on them and I heard that saltines are okay. let me know thanks.
I agree that it may be too early for those But I give my son the Gerber Puffs at around 6 months. Hes 7 months now and likes to have any 5-6 puffs, or 4-5 of the Gerber Cheetos for a snack between lunch and dinner. Just keep an eye on him the first time you give them to your little one to make sure he know how to mash them with his gums..because babies do chew all their first foods beside their gums, the teeth in front they get first are just for biting.
Most six month old babies have not yet developed the "pincer grasp" obligatory to pick up something as small as a cheerio and put it in their mouth. I'm serious - you could put a pile of cheerios in front of your six month old right presently and all he'd be able to do is wave his hand through them and spray them all over the floor. If he got one into his mouth it would only be by licking or drooling on his paw, smashing one into that and then licking the cheerio off. Which is possible, so probably wait somewhat while.

He doesn't need teeth for cheerios, but he does need to have mastered the dexterity to pick them up and put them within his own mouth. When he has that, he's probably ready.
Wait on cheerios until teeth come thru. Give him teething biscuits to suck on.
I intuitively wouldn't do saltines, they have alot of salt. Maybe some type of unsalted cracker. I honestly can't remember what age I started giving my son cheerios but I am pretty sure it wasn't at 6 months. I gave him those gerber puffs back any other type of finger food. They dissolve almost instantly and are pretty healthy. I would try those first b/c cheerios take longer to dissolve. If he can handle the puffs fine afterwards you could try a few cheerios and see how he does. Just be sure you always watch him with small foods approaching that, especially when he is just starting to learn to chew.
i have 2 kids, i waited till they were one year elderly before i gave them any thing save for baby food. But you may want to ask your doc. he/she may suggest something else.
Woah its waaay to early, why would you even consider it?? Does he even have the teeth prerequisite to chew them? Sorry to sound rude, but use your common sense here. Try those puffs, they are made for babies, although i think 6 months is too rash for those too...
Answers:    Your toddler doesn't need teeth to gum a cherrio, but he does need to make a chewing motion beside his mouth. You might observe him doing this while eating purees - if not, you should probably hold sour until he does. I do know some people who soak cheerios in formula to make them softer to gum, but he still wishes to chew at least a little. Gerber puffs also dissolve very well in the mouth, even w/o chewing, so if you aren't sure if he is ready for a cheerio, you might want to try those.

He is also a bit young to sucessfully manuver a cheerio into his mouth - at this age they still rake to pick up things, and it is harder than you would reason to let go in the right place, lol.

Babies can own saltines - pick a low or no sodium variety and break the crackers in half. There is also a evolution that pieces of the cracker will break off and become a choking hazard, so just stay alert. I construe my dd was eating saltines around 7 months probably. It is easier for a baby to pick up because of the long shape, but a bit harder for them to gum since they have to kind of suck softened pieces off the extremity.
you can splash them with water to support soften them
Yes, I think to be precise a little early for Cheerios. You should wait until he have a few more teeth and is sitting up properly. At that age, you should just be starting to feed them stage 1 baby food which is drastically easy for them to digest and chew.
if they can chomp down on the food then no.
