When should I bear my son for portraits?

He turned 3 months yesterday and I still haven't taken him to get portraits done. I have tons of pictures that we have taken of him.

I am not sure what the best age is to find them done. I know I want to do it soon before he starts growing even more.

Thanks!
conserve your money and run your own photos (and LOTS of them). Put together a photo album and get the pictures developed regularly so that you can update the book often with the age or month, "firsts" etc. Then at 1 year you can acquire a professional photo done.

My baby book for my son is almost half filled next to pictures of every month so far and all his "firsts" and he will be 1 next month. My appointment for the first professional pictures is this sunday!
My first born portrait was done when he be 19 days old. :-) Before and after that, we had several pictures of him taken. We got them done at WalMart. Then every year after that he have portraits done. Of course we had family portraits too.

I would get them done as soon as you can. :-) And attain a family portrait while you're at it. It could be a Christmas Present for Mom and Dad, and In-Laws.
I always did the first professional pics at 3 months, next to my first three... However, they are so expensive, and I'm a great amateur photographer (with a good camera), I've been taking my own professional-quality pics, at a fraction of the price... My 4th babies' pics, I did, myself! Printing them out is very cheap, and they turn out awesome; no fussy tot at the studio. :)
I draw from them done ALL the time!

I did them when my son was:
2.5 months
5.5 months when he started sitting up
7 months for Christmas pictures
9 months for Valentines Day pictures
11 months for Easter pictures
And I tried again when he turned a year when he was walking but he wouldnt have it. So I will be going pay for soon.

They change so much in the first year! That's why I kept getting them done.
Answers:    Yeah, or if you have a nice camera you can take your own. My sister surrounded by law has a nikon d40 and she has agree to me borrow it to take pictures of Caitlin, but we also have gotten professional portraits done.
I take pictures at home all the time! I went and get my daughter her 2 month pictures, and spent like $100, and got more pictures than I needed! But I am going this weekend to get her 4 month's done, but I enjoy a coupon so that is great!!
It is when you feel you want them done!
whenever you want really. the first portraits i had my daughter take be at 3 months old. then we got some done later month and she was 5 1/2 months, those were with her naming dress. i take pictures of her all the time with my camera but its nice to own some portraits. i wanted to try every 3 months just because they change so much during the 1st year. i similar to going to jcpenney because i always find these great coupons for either all page $3.99 any pose, or 1 packet for 1 pose for $7.99. but sears i think does good deal also.
but really its all up to you for when you want to take him and how often.
do it when they start to smile but don't skulk too long cuz them they won't stay still..so before six months..like before they start to crawl
i got my daughters first portarit when she be 3 months then again when she was 6 . and now i want to help yourself to her again cause she just turn 9 months. it cool seeing how she changes.
