German Shepherd's near newborn?
I 15 weeks pregnant and I just read about how a 65 pound K-9 took the baby out of the crib and took the newborn outside. My cross-question is how many of you have german shepherds and how did you introduce the newborn to your dog?
The german shepherd is a 2 year old manly and getting very aggressive. I'm thinking about bringing a blanket with the smell of our kid on it and first let him get use to the smell. A day or few hours back I bring our baby home. I just don't want him to think our babe is an intruder or a toy. Of course, I'll never leave him unattended with our baby. Just stipulation a little advice on what else I could do to prepare for our baby coming home to 2 dogs. Oh yeah and my dog is a miniature schnauzer. And the miniature schnauzer is a 2 year elderly female. She is my lap dog.
Actually, I would suggest getting your dog used to "baby smells" even now. It won't hurt anything. Just bring back some baby lotion and rub it on a blanket and keep the blanket around the house. That's what I did. My two little dogs are really protective of my son.
If he is "getting ver aggressive" I would seriously consider rehoming him as to protect my baby. I know that sounds horrible as I would have some serious issues getting rid of my dog but my kids safety is more vital. If you are really that worried you might need to consider it.
Answers: we do not have german shepards, but we do own 2 very protective dogs. My husband brought our daughter's hat home from the hospital and let them check that out in the past we brought her home. Then, once she was home, we gradually let them bring back closer and closer to her. They are now her guard dogs and make sure she is safe and protected at adjectives times.
Is your german shepard neutered ,
Is he trained as capably.
A well trained dog will not be a problem with a new born
you can try a blanket near a bay smell but if he is turing aggressive you have a bigger problem which needs sorting in a minute with training!
