Can total milk explanation my son to be constipated?
My husband seems to think our son is getting too much 3% milk a day. He is getting 24 ounces a afternoon. I think this is the right amount...or a good amount!
We haven't changed his diet, and this last week he have been constipated and just having a standard hard time with his bowel movements. I spoke to the pharmacist who recommended suppositories and prune juice and to monitor him for another week, afterwards visit the doctor if he was still having trouble.
Could it be the milk cause this? Asking for my husbands sake! lol
I would not give Suppositories as they can make the body dependant on them if used too commonly in babies- My son had the same consipation problem- I used prunes- tummy massage in the bathtub- but it went away so it was something I be feeding him not the milk as if it was the milk constipating him I think it would enjoy happened when you 1st did the switch.
Yes! My daughter's never been constipated before until we started her on whole milk. We've started giving her a laxative surrounded by her milk so her first bottle in the morning gets spiked. It's helped alot and we hand over her prunes to snack on along with alot water. When she refuses to drink hose we give her otter pops. This seems to help a bit. We've had to give my daughter enemas because she was surrounded by so much pain.
Yes whole can cause contipation my tot was like that too i'd just tender her water and prune juice she had a knotty time for a week but now her poos are back to normal and I meditate the amount is ok as long and he's eating right too good luck
That should be fine but if your son's having problems with number two simply cut back the milk some! Give juice instead or water! That should support and hope that helps!
P.S. Its fine because of babies age if he were younger then I would be more concerned! As immature babies can have problems digesting diary products! However being over a year old finances he is weaned from formula and should be able to drink some milk!
Answers: It could be very likely if milk is quenching a majority of his thirst, anti a more hydrating drink such as some water.
I think it would be safe to cut posterior milk to somewhere around 18- 20 oz. a day, and replace that extra 4-6 oz. with some water or possibly even a touch diluted juice.
I personally find dairy to be very binding, especially if I drink more of it later water per day.
I think adjectives back a little on milk and adding for a while more water would definitely do the trick to get your son hindmost on track.
As far as the suppositories, if there is a hard mass that he is not able to exceed, then using it once or twice to help that hard stool intervene should be okay.
Prune juice sounds like a good alternative as very well. Also, try to cut back a little on binding foods for the next couple days defiant continuing on the suppositories. I would try and limit starchy foods such as pastas and breads, binding dairy products such as cheese, as well as iron fortified foods.
Replace these with extra fruits and veggies. I find watermelon to work amazing for mild constipation. Seriously, it make my son go! As the constipation begins to subside, do reintroduce the foods you omitted from the diet though.
Just wanted to put in, my son drinks roughly 18 oz. of whole milk a day, and he is extremely healthy and growing similar to a weed.
Well my daughters almost 5 months and I haven't experienced this but I believe I have hear of this happening before. I would just use the proposal of the pharmacist tho if I were you.
