When should I start totalling food to my baby's bottle?
My son is 2.5 months and drinks a 5 oz bottle of formula usually every 3 to 4 hours. Over the past 2 or 3 days he has been getting hungry every 2 hours. I thought that uping his bottle to 6 oz would sustain but its too much for him. He will only drink 5 oz. Is it too early to start him on something more? What should I do?
Sounds like a growth spurt to me. In a few days he may step back down to every 3 to 4 hours.
Don't put food in his bottle. If you are going to give him cereal or food, use a spoon. Try giving him some cereal and see how he does next to it. If he gets constipated or major belly ache, he isn't organized!
I tried at 2 months, wasn't ready, then 3 months and wasn't ready. So I said screw the cereal, and very soon at 4 months, am starting vegetables. He does just fine.
Most people on here will say loaf until atleast 4 months to give cereal, but my momma gave it to me when I was a few weeks dated and I am healthy & just fine.
It is your choice as a mother to decide. Not theirs.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommend that infants should be exclusively breast/formula fed until at least 4 months. Starting cereal too early can effect digestive problems and possibly increase your child's risk of developing food allergies. And you'll have an angry, gassy baby on your hands.
Your kid is most likely having a growth spurt. This will last in the order of a week and things will calm down again. In the meantime, ignore the schedule and nurture him on demand. If he's waking up a lot during the dark, you might want to enlist the help of your partner, friend, or relative to help with those feedings, and try to powernap when he naps during the day.
I wouldn't do anything, it is too early. he's probably hitting his 3 month growth spurt a little early. newly keep feeding him every 2 hours -- it should slow down in a week or so. a babe shouldn't have cereal until 4 months at the EARLIEST.
you shouldn't put food contained by the baby's bottle as this will damage it and yes it is to early to start solids. you have to lurk at least another one and a half months before it is ok. usually around this time the will be nearing a growth spurt and will have need of more milk and this is all you should give them. just nurture your baby every 2 hours if that is what it needs and it should soon settle down. the recommended time to start solids is 4-6 months. starting to impulsive can really harm the baby's belly intestines and kidneys.
Just feed him when he wants it, he may be growing thru a growth spurt. You dont need to make a payment anything more to the bottle. My daughter went from every 2-3 hours to 3-4 hours back to 3 hours.
I tried this approach with my daughter and it backfired. She threw up the rice cereal all over the place. Your child wants to eat a lot because its probably going through a growth spurt. Your pediatrician will report to you also that you shouldn't give the baby any solids until they are at least 4 months ancient.
Ask your doctor not YA!
do not add anything to the bottle and solids and cereal shouldn't be offered until 4 months. he might be going through a growth spurt it will pass. try burping more during the feed like every 2 oz it may help to slow him down and maybe not overeat.
I always read and was told not to put cereal surrounded by a bottle.. Let your doc guide you on when to start feeding your son solids. Some say 4 months other say 6 months.. i also be told when your baby doubles it weight since birth.. which is normally around 4 months. Your son may not know how to eat off a SPD due to a reflex with his tongue.. he will lately push it out. Good Luck
Instead of putting cereal in the bottle which is a bad notion, just feed him on demand. He is most imagined just going through a growth spurt and during a growth spurt, babies eat a lot more after usual.
Answers: To me it sounds like a growth spurt. Your also not supposed to put anything surrounded by the baby's bottle as it can cause a choking hazard. Cereal will not always steep him up (Even tho half the people try this) if you do play to give it a try you should mix it contained by a bowl and feed by spoon but Im sure he will push it right back out as he doesn't know the concept of 'Taking solids' this early. I utter just stick with what your doing, and feed that boy when hes wanting it.

I dont agree with cereal contained by a bottle, its meant to be spoon fed.
I'm not a mom or anything, but I do enjoy a baby sister who is 6 months, and she still throws up when we put rice cereal in her bottles. Her tummy is still too sensitive. I think 2 months is approach to young.
