7 1/2 month hoary near severe reflux. support beside formula!?

Hello everyone... boy I hope someone can help us!

My son is about 7 1/2 months old and almost 21lbs. He is a pretty big boy and other has been. He was unsophisticatedly born with reflux and for the longest time our pediatrician kept calling him a "happy spitter" until he stopped gaining weightiness for about a month. I breastfed him for almost 6 months and then since the reflux was getting worse they have me stop and try formula. We've tried zantac and now have moved on to prevacid. I have him on Enfamil LIPIL and that's out of use so they told us to add rice... we discovered that rice is no good for him. so that rules out Enfamill AR ... we are now using Gentlese but that doesn't come across to be helping either. basically I'm just wondering if anyone have any good ideas for formula... I've heard profoundly about Goodstart in the green can? Any help we are desperate!!
I went through much of the same when my daughter be a few WEEKS old. We found Similac Alimentium ready made formula. We too add the rice to weigh it down. Our daughter have a hard time with the powder forms of formula. Good Luck. She is now 3 month and on Zantac also. Prevacid didn't work for her.

DId he SCREAM contained by pain after laying flat on his back? She is doing this presently and then.
My baby bad spit up also so the doc switched us to nutramigen(enfamil) with the ginger top and that worked except it made his poop really watery so we switched to similac sensitive also with the orange top and it works great. I would suggest you try any one of those or both and they should help. goodluck.
my son had severe reflux too and my sons doctor put him on formula call Neocate. maybe ask your doctor about that, it helped my son heaps but i did hold to add a little bit of rice cereal as its a real runny formula
We went through the same problem and tried diff formulas the single one i liked was the enfamil AR. The only issue i have was he got stopped up but we used a little of the apple and prune liquid in his bottle to help break it up and it worked wonders. i would deff. recommend enfamil AR.
Answers:    Its expensive but so worth it - Similac Alimentum. It works wonders as far as allergies but is also polite for reflux since it is more broken down.

Just a thought but since your baby has severe reflux from what it sounds like and the rice probably constipates him. If he doesn't hold a milk allergy I would suggest adding OATMEAL instead of rice. That is what I did. I actually found it to mix better and it stopped constipating him (my son was constipated so discouraging that his bum bled because of straining). My doctor said to switch him onto oatmeal in his formula instead of rice (he couldn't use Enfamil AR b/c of milk allergy) because really you just need any single particle cereal. We used Sassy MAM bottles and Avent bottles the most when we were thickening formula because we would put the cereal in an meaningless formula container and use the scooper that came with it. We bought the Stage 3 nipples for the MAM bottles and the Avent nipples for "thicker" formula (they have merely a slit instead of 4 holes). We would do one scoop to every 2 ounces of the formula. So for an 4 ounce bottles you would use the 2 scoops of formula and then 2 scoop of cereal. If you use less than that, it really doesn't thicken it nearly enough. For reflux, you need to gross it real thick. Most people voice when adding cereal to "fill the baby up to sleep through the night" or "thrill the baby's hunger" they say to put in a teaspoon but in realness that does not thicken it whatsoever, as the formula fully dissolves when you shake it. Oh and don't be alarmed, the oatmeal makes it a light tanish color instead of white formula.

Hope I helped but this be the solution that was best with us.

ETA: I re-read your question again and considered necessary to add a few more things. I understand how frustrating it can be. We went through SEVERAL brands/kinds of formula beforehand settling on Alimentum. Its pricy at $25 a can but so worth it. However, if your child doesn't have an allergy then you can use the cheaper milk based formula.pick one that the whey proteins are broken down more...such as the gentleease. The issue sounds to be the reflux- not the formula. I would speak leave the baby on the gentle formula and please try the oatmeal...it make all the difference in the world. the poopy diapers will be nasty but trust me it works! Shake it satisfactory so it fully dissolves.

I'm curious- how much cereal did your pedi tell you to thicken it with?

Also, what kind of bottles are you using and which nipples next to it? You want the one for thicker liquids. If you thicken it with the same amount that I do- the Playtex Drop In and Ventaire nipples made for thicker liquid will not work and you need to make that hole bigger. What I did for those, was pilfer scissors that had a very fine tip and cut an X in the tip of the nipple (I would pinch it flat, cut a small slit and after pinch it flat the opposite way and cut another slit) that way, when my son drank the hold be even when it opened up further and not pouring into his mouth or only coming out of one part of the nipple.

I really hope I help because I remember how stressed I was. They thought his milk allergy was reflux because the only sign of his allergy be throwing up blood. He didn't have runny stools like allergy babies normall do. So we wound up on the alimentum for the reflux and it was worth the price because of how much better he acted/felt. But we be adding cereal since he was 2 weeks old and we started the alimentum at 3 weeks frail. Turns out, when he ate eggs recently they tested him for milk too and he is allergic to that, which is why he seemed much better on the alimentum. But if your child does ok on the milk based formula beside thickening it with oatmeal instead of rice- then jump with that because one month where my son was at his height of eating (he would have 3 or 4 eight ounce bottles a day) we paid $200 surrounded by formula.
