Birth control while breastfeeding?

I'm not sure which type of birth control would be best while nursing my 4 month old son. I'm looking for something that wont cause weight gain, solid cramping, and obviously low milk supply. If other bf'ing mother could share experiences with types of birth control they have used and backing guide me that would be great! Thanks!
Birth control is of the devil. Don't use it.
I just spoke to my doctor about birth control today. I'm breastfeeding Twins.

He said that the best preference was a condom with spermicide every time. He told me about the mini pill that you can lift, but said that many woman notice a decrease contained by milk supply on that pill. He said he could put an IUD in, but that it can also decrease supply. The lactation consultants agreed. I'm committed to breastfeeding these two, so I told my husband he'll just enjoy to get used to condoms again.
I'm on the mini pill. It has kept me from getting pregnant again thus far. I haven't had any problem beside weight gain or a lowered milk supply. Talk to your Dr and he/she will be able to help you integer out what the best option is for you.
The single thing you really CAN'T use is regular birth control pills, or other hormonal methods with estrogen. (That's what dries up your milk.)

We used condoms while I was nursing.

If those aren't for you, you might consider:
1. Mirena IUD -- VERY effectual, most women who have it love it, and shouldnt' affect your supply. Unlike regular IUDs, it doesn't cause heavy period or cramping. (Though you may have some spotting/light bleeding for a few weeks after insertion.)
2. LAM (breastfeeding alone as birth control -- good for 6 months or until you get your first spell, whichever comes first). Once you are no longer eligible for LAM, Natural Family Planning.
3. Progestin-only methods -- the mini-pill or implant. (Depo has a reputation for causing counterbalance gain, but the mini pill does not.)
4. Diaphragm or vaginal spermicides. Not very effective alone, but good beside a condom, or as extra coverage with LAM.
Answers:    I use the minipill and haven't noticed any decrease in my milk supply or any of the other things you mention. The principal problem is that you have to take it at the same time every morning for it to be effective - it can be hard to remember! I had to set an alarm surrounded by the end.
Try the Iud ( the copper one) It has no hormones and didnt have any side effects for me except a moment or two heavier flow but my peroids only lasted two days, look it up and see if it might be right for you. Goodluck
I use the mini pill. the mini pill DOESN'T cause a drop in supply because it's progestin simply, instead of progestin-estrogen like regular pills. I haven't noticed any supply drop or weight gain. the nice point about pills too, is you can stop taking them immediately if you notice a drop contained by supply. with the IUD, you have to schedule another appointment to give somebody a lift it out and with the depo shot, you're done for 3 months until it 'wears off.' that's why I chose the pill anyways, and I didn't surface like having an IUD inserted in within after all my vagina had been through (TMI, sorry).
just ask ur doctor and they will prescribe you one that you can use while breastfeeding
