They want you to magically send milk from your boobs into your baby's mouth. These are usually the same busy bodies that judge parents who use formula, too.
I totally agree with you. When I breastfed surrounded by public, I would just stay where I was comfortable and use a cover. Once my daughter reach about six months of age, she got to the point where she despised the cover and was distracted by everything around her, so at that point, I would just go sour alone to a secluded area. In no circumstance did anyone around me have a right to complain, and not a soul ever did. I was confident enough breastfeeding in public, and I presume I looked confident and comfortable doing so, so I think that's why no one dared put somebody through the mill me. In fact, I don't ever remember seeing anything except smiles and hearing the occasional "Good for you, honey!" It was a great experience for me. :)
Yasmin, some kids don't run bottles, even if they are hungry. My daughter was one of them, and I tried everything to get her to take a bottle, everything! She insufferable bottles, and she hated formula, and while she would drink a little from a bottle if she was hungry satisfactory, she would just push the bottle away after an ounce was gone and scream. I doubt you hold much experience breastfeeding if you don't think a baby won't drink from a bottle. And what would you rather treaty with in public, a screaming kid or a mother quietly breastfeeding? Pump it into a bottle and take it with you. I don't effort if "my kid won't take a bottle" if they are truly hungry they will now wont they?
there are laws that support breastfeeding in oodles states. learn the laws for your state, and then confer any rude "starers" a nice long talking to. if they dont like it then they can move off. remember, you are not the problem, they are.
It's not unauthorized to breastfeed in public. You can feed your baby any place you resembling.

My son won't nurse covered up. Thankfully there are laws to protect him from the ignorants of the world. :)
As for pumping, my son won't run a bottle and if I am supposed to make him take it when he is hungry enough consequently that is going to be a real scene. He'll be bright red and screaming, angry... why the heck should my baby suffer because some **** might take offended at the sight of a little skin. Please!
