Infant audible range check - how accurate?

At hospital - failed left side
2 weeks old - substandard left side
6 weeks old - failed both right and vanished side

Being refered to a pediatric audiologist but wanted to see your opinion or experience regarding this.

They said it could be fluid - but what are the probability that fluid is still there now that he is over 6 weeks old. And why would the right ear overrun the first two times then all of a sudden get no response?

Is this treatable? I am down over the reality that my baby doesn't know my voice - he can't hear me - he doens't respond to sound at all.
If its not treatable - how not easy is it to learn sign language for the parents, the baby, and the sibling (6 years old).
A newborn who fails an initial audible range screen may not necessarily have a permanent audible range loss or a hearing loss at all. There are many possible reason why an infant may fail a hearing screening test. One adjectives reason is that fluid from the birth may still be present in the ear canal. This fluid blocks the nouns stimulus, preventing it from reaching the inner ear, and therefore causes the newborn to fail. Similarly, fluid surrounded by the middle-ear space behind the eardrum (a common site for infection in children) can also block the nouns stimulus and lead to a false failed test. After these problems resolve, the infant usually pass the rescreen. Therefore, it is important to have at least one week between the initial audible range screen and the rescreen to allow the newborn a chance to "dry out."

Another possible reason for a false end is excessive noise or movement from the infant during the test. The responses that are recorded next to an ABR or OAE are very, very small. Any movement or crying from the infant can prevent the equipment from detecting the response. Therefore, it is important that the newborn is inactive or sleeping for the hearing screen. Feeding the infant just prior to the screening is normally very helpful. Although neither test is raw, they are novel experiences for the newborn and can be momentarily upsetting.

If it becomes evident that an infant have a hearing loss, then a full diagnostic exam is necessary to determine the type and amount of audible range loss.

Answers:    The infant will pick it up the quickest. It's the parents that will take awhile to learn, but it's easy once you seize going, and you'll be going at the pace of the kid so it should go well.

But failing the experiment doesn't mean tha he is completely deaf..it just means that he substandard the test to a certain standard so he may be able to use audible range aids if there really is a problem.
