Choking little one, what would you do?
Today around 2:30pm my son choked on some noodles I was feeding him as a snack. He started coughing first, then go silent and his lips turned blue. I pulled him out of the high chair and started hitting him on his backbone. It took 8 thrusts for him to start crying, nothing came up though. He started coughing again and the noodle came up. I call his doctor after this and they just now called me wager on. She told me that I didn't have to bring him in but I could if I felt he needed it. He's acting common now, no coughing or wheezing and he's breathing fine. Should I take him in? Would you clutch your little one it?
I would probably bring my child contained by just to stay on the safe side. He may seem fine but you never can be to sure
Both my sons did this, My last babe choked on us three times to the point of passing out it he passed out for so long that when we finally got him to catch his breath here were little red dots all over his face from shortage of oxygen was so so scary, I brought him to the ENT and they scheduled adjectives kinds of tests, like the barium swallow and xrays of the throat everything be normal. I just go extra slow immediately when I'm feeding him and I don't feed him when he's crying, its really scary though.
No situation what I would take him in now! You don't know if something might of gotten into his lungs or further down within his air without completely blocking it! Go Go Go!
You instinctively did the correct point by giving him a modified Heimlich maneuver. What your son had were noodles stuck in his windpipe and he be choking. You might contact the Red Cross to determine the correct way to perform the manuever on a small child. There is no need to see a Dr. if your child is alert and breathing generally.
Answers: If he seems fine then I wouldn't bring him in. You should consider a first aid course though, never know when you might enjoy to use it. God forbid things got worse, you'd want to know how to do CPR and the heimlich maneuvre. St Johns ambulance offers a course and it also specializes in infant and child first aid. Definitely worth taking. I did it twice, once 5 years ago and again a year ago to strengthen.
lol, thumbs down for suggesting a CPR course? ok...
eta- Jeremiahs mom I wasn't saying it was you ;)
I am 12yo and trained in Red Cross Babysitting and CPR. I took the course just finishing week. You are suppose to give 5 back blows between the shoulder blades and five abdominal thrust right above the belly button. If this doesnt work and the victim go unconcious you are to perform CPR. A cycle of CPR is 30 chest compressions and 2 rescue breaths. Hope this helps.
no, cause at this moment he seems fine,
if it happens again appropriate him in. do the same thing beside the thrusting on his back if it happens again, then offer him a drink to soothe him.
I had a couple scares like that beside my 1st baby. I feel for ya! Your own heart starts beating rapid and you start freaking out.. I know.
But I don't think you need to bring him in as long as he is breathing fine. It be just a scary experience.
youre fine. I had alike problem with my kid a week ago.
I suggest you hold him 45 degrees facing down next time, next do the thrusts.
kids tend to choke when they're hungry and want to eat fast.
If you haven't taken a CPR class, I suggest you do. But congrats on saving your kid's enthusiasm.
Should I take him in?
Yes.
Would you take your little one within?
Yes I would take my son... and I am not even a first time parent like I think you might be. Source(s): mother of four boys ages eleven, seven, four, and fourteen months prehistoric
No obligation to take him in. You know why he choked and it wasn't a medical problem. He is breathing fine now. No call for for a doctor.
That happened to my friend's baby one time. The baby be only 4 weeks old and I don't know why he choked. She handed me the blue infant and I turned it upsidedown on my arm, hit his back a few times, he coughed and started breathing and pinked right up. It was really scary.
Glad your little boy is okay.
If he's breathing fine, leave him at home. But if he starts again, take him to the doctor immediately.
I wouldn't take him contained by if he's fine now. Geez that must have scared the crap out of you!
