How do I word a infant shower invite?
My sister moved to Sweden last year. She just had a baby(June 12) and is coming home for a call in in August. I want to have a shower for her, but need to cut back her gifts due to packing them to go back to home. Is there a "non-tacky" agency of asking for cash?
Just vote cash gifts only and explain what you just said surrounded by a brief statement in the card. People shouldnt be offended if you just state the use they need cash instead of applinces
There really isn't a "non-tacky" way to ask for dosh only, but it has to be done. I would try and spread the message by word of mouth. Any person whom you hold invited, I would make it a point to call them for some other reason and bring it up within conversation or have another relative call them. You could also mention on the invitation that she is coming home from Sweden and maybe folks would be smart enough to think cash, but I wouldn't count on that one.
say that cash gifts standard only due to travilin issues...
use the term "monetory gifts are appreciated", objective $$$ but its the formal way of asking
Answers: I had a similar issue when I got married--my soon-to-be wife and I be moving to Australia 2 months after the wedding, so we really wanted cash gifts. One possible work around (and our first inclination for our move) would be for you to hold her create a gift registry at a Swedish website, and refer people to that. This way individuals could buy her gifts but they would be delivered to her in Sweden. An Amazon.uk or Amazon.de wishlist might work as well, since they should ship to Sweden for a technically low surcharge.
Absent that (that option didn't work for us), you just have to drop some severely pointed hints. When people asked us what we needed, we'd say things like "oh, I haven't thought in the order of it much, but keep in mind that shipping costs are really high," or "adjectives our stuff has been shipped already, and I forgot what exactly we do and don't have," stuff close to that. Most people will work the rest out on their own. All in all, I reflect on that 90%+ of our gifts were cash.
