3 month outmoded on fruits and veggies?
Okay.. before I catch the normal Y!A criticism.. these are my doctors directions and im asking moms and dads who HAVE started on these foods early..
okay.. my son is 2 1/2 months old.. 14 lbs and was ingestion upwards of 50oz of formula a day (and before i get criticized for not breast feed.. i couldnt.. he threw it up every time.. tried for a while.. so i dont want to hear that either lol)
okay.. so.. according to the doctor he wants us to feed our son cereal for a week surrounded by the am and pm.. and then start on veggies and fruits.. 3 days of one veggie.. 3 days of another veggie.. 3 days of fruit.. repeat.. rice cereal in the am.. veggie in the pm.. by the time we start the veggies and fruit he will newly be hitting 3 months.. we did the cereal for the first time last night.. and im amazed that a 2 1/2 month old can pick up on drinking off of a spoon that quickly!! it was wonderful
im curious as to how oodles other people have started fruits and veggies this early.. in the past yesterday I always thought this was very hasty to start anything other than cereal.. but i love our doctor and trust his opinion.. im just looking for other experiences on this.. please share them so I dont perceive like the crazy person starting solids SO early!! thank you!!
You are not crazy for starting rash. I did the same thing... with adjectives 3 of my children when they were babies. My first daughter was 8 lbs. 1 oz when she was born. By the time she be 3 months old she was drinking 8 oz. every 2 hours day and hours of darkness. Her pediatrician advised me to give her some rice cereal, and move on from here. My second daughter weighed 9 lbs 9 oz when she was born. She began intake cereal at 6 weeks per doctor's orders. My third child, my son, was 8 weeks when he was drinking 10 oz. every 2 hours day and night. I believe that the recomendations are just that... recomendations not mandatory guidelines. Every child is different and I know that if I wait 6 months then I would have had some fussy, hungry babies to matter with. What I did was start in this lay down: rice, oatmeal, barley... then the yellow and orange fruits and veges: bananas, pears, applesauce, peaches, squash, sweet potatoes, carrot... then the other fruits and vegetables. I waited 3 days between to look for signs of an allergy such as hives, rashes, asthma symptoms, diarrhea, vomitting, etc. Don't grain bad for feeding her early. All children are different and you know your son best. I did impossible to tell apart thing and my babies grew up to be healthy children.
I started my son about indistinguishable time because he just never seemed to get full. I started by using purely cereal then slowly mixing in fruits. I tried one fruit for about two days after moved on to something else. I wanted to make sure he was not allergic to it.
Your babe should start sleeping better if you feed him before he goes to bed. My son finally started sleeping through the hours of darkness when I fed him cereal.
If your doctor say its okay, it should be fine.
None of the advice the other parents on here will help you because every child is different.
But I know that as soon as i could sit up in my illustrious chair i was eating big chicken drumsticks, home made soups, veggies- you baptize it!
And when i was a baby i wasn't fed can baby food either.
It was usually a magazine of what my parents had.
eg.
Mashed-up potato and pumpkin..
Rissoles mashed ups small with some home-made gravy.
most veggies...
Also, possibly your mother/grand mother could give you advise
:)

They put him on food cause he was trowing up right? They had me impart my daughter rice cereal in every bottle tried the foods all different kinds of formula, she be puking like crazy and was so skinny after a while they finally figured out it be acid reflux they gave her a2 medicines call regulan and zantac at a few months old but it lasted till she was one. Good Luck
ok mine daughter is 3months 14 Lbs mine was consumption about 24 Oz per day we are meeting the doctor today he told us initally that we be going to start on creal he hasnt told me anything about vegies or fruit but ill tell you
My nephew started solids (stewed apple) at 2 weeks older (for medical reasons) and my SIL was amazed at how well he took it.
your not crazy at all!
some babies need the extra nutrition of solid food
my brother wasn't gaining bulk until we put him on solids.
besides you doctor already said it was ok
My son have been on fruit since he was 4 weeks. Different situation all together thought, because my son have cystic fibrosis. But if you are worried that it will hurt or affect him, the answer is no.
I hear ya about the criticism!
But I just started my daughter on rice cereal second week, she was about 3months and 21/2 weeks. She is so great on the spoon thing! Love it! But you did lend a hand me out on what to do when introducing fruits and veggies! I will do what your doctor told you to do.
I give her the rice cereal in the am and pm on the weekends, but only contained by the pm on week days.
Is believe the longer you wait to give them any open-handed of food the better... we initiazed our babies on food after 6 months and thanks God they are very healthy...
what I dont get why the doctor would tell you to feed him food so early. I would disagree and I focus you should get a second opinion. Usually you dont start introducing food until 6 months. I was told the longer you lurk the less likely they will have food allergies.
Good luck!
I'm curious as to why your doc suggested this? Is it because 50 oz of forumula is expensive and you want him to consume something else that doesn't cost so much?
I would find another doctor. Just because he/she has MD aft his/her name, does not mean he/she knows what he is doing. And newly because you don't, does not mean you are stupid. Always remember that.
On the advice of my doc, I gave my daughter solid foods around three months. I am convinced that the one of the reason she has kidney problems is because I introduced these foods too soon. She is 21 now.
Even the American Medical Association does not endorse giving infants fruits and veggies at three months, although some doctors would insist on cereal and there is some abivelence regarding that. Certainly there is NO support for giving an infant THIS much solid food THIS soon. The agenda your doc is suggesting is really mind boggling. Whatever is his/her reasoning?
The problem with giving foods like this so early is that you are dealing near an immature digestive system as well as an immature endocrine system. It's strong on them to digest and some babies are much more susceptable than others to the problems it can cause.
The other thing is that if your baby is have some kind of problem with digestion or weight gain ( which doesn't nouns like it) or something else that doesn't seem quite right, and the doc is suggesting this freshly to shut you up, then that raises some serious red flags in my book.
I dunno momma, what's your gut instinct here?
EDIT- Huh...no wonder there's an plumpness epidemic in this country. We start pushing solid foods way too early because we want to shut the kids up instead of address the root issues. No wonder some people grow up having issues with food.
Answers: OK... This make me really mad! My doctor told me to do the same thing near my 2.5 month old. Same size as your baby and 25.5 inches long. My previous doctor told me to start my daughter at this age too b/c of her size. No one on Y!A EVER agrees with me and other fight with me about this. I other get.. NO, you are horrible for feeding your baby food and NO, your doctor didn't vote to do that you are just making excuses to start food early. They tell me nearby is NO doctor that would EVER tell me to start food before 6 months. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Finally some validation from you!! Feed that big beautiful tot :)
One more thing: to all the people that are against this...
What motive would our doctors enjoy to tell us to start food early? They aren't paying for the massive amounts of formula that we are buying. There is absolutly NO reason they would recount us to do this if it was not good for our babies. Source(s): Brooke and Brendan's mommy. Started food at 2.5 months! DOCTORS ORDERS!
