MIL's Say the Darndest Things!!?
I was talking to my MIL this morning (on the phone) and my son was playing beside his 'NEW' (to him) toy that we bought at a garage sale a few weeks ago. It is the "Laugh and Learn Vacuum" and he absolutely loves it! (For $3.00, sure you can have it babe).
She asked what be singing so I said "Oh Lucas is playing with his vacuum again." She then tells me that 'I shouldn't agree to him play with that so much, it is not his job to be cleaning the carpets and vacuuming?'
WHHHHHHHHHHAAAATTTTT? He is 15 months outmoded. It's a singing fricken vacuum. If he wants to actually vacuum the carpets every afternoon of his life, do you actually think I would stop him??
I burst out laughing when she said this and asked her if it be 1920 and I had been sent back surrounded by time. She seemed a bit miffed but honestly, WTF?
What stupid, backward and hilarious comments own your MIL's made lately! I must admit, I think it's hilarious! However this specifically explains why her 3 boys have an aversion to cleaning! ;-)
BTW: this is the vacuum. It was $3.00, he wouldnt let it jump, and it sings the cutest songs. "I'm going to clean the house today...do dah...do dah.. I'm going to vaccum while I play, all the do dah day!"

This instance other grates on me. We were on vaca and I was getting his bath set, and she comments that she thinks the water is too warm, I relay her it's fine (freezing cold air conditioned hotel room, the water was fine). She proceeds to direct comments to my son such as, "all right I think the water is too warm, but if mommy say it's ok, then it must be ok, what do I know, I haven't had babies in almost 30 years, I never recollect having bathwater this warm with my babies, but your mommy say it's ok, so then I guess she knows best because she's your mommy, and she knows what's right for you, but it sure is warm"..and on and on and on, while I am standing right here. Are you kidding me?
So ... my kid is nearly 6 months, and she be watching her for an hour or so, while i was helping out my husband at work ( i was in like building! )
I go back to check if the baby requirements fed. . .
ME - "is she hungry"
MIL - "Well she was, but i fed her some carrot cake, so very soon shes not."
Carrot cake!? Freakin carrot cake?! the kid is not even 6 months old, and shes feeding her carrot cake?!
crazy
Answers: That is the elder generation, you were right to just giggle it off!! I get things like that a bit from my MIL.
Ugh...mother in laws...
*At 3 weeks mature, she tried giving my baby water.
*At two months, she tried putting baby cereal within my baby's formula and said it would 'help her sleep'. Myth.
*She told me that giving birth without an epidural was a stupid perception.
So many more things, but these things got on my nerves the most.
Your MIL sounds pretty old college. MIL's like tha are the reason some men believe it's only a womens opportunity to take care of the kids, house etc. Arrgh!
Thank God despite my husbands old institution upbringing, he is very good at helping out with the babies and even some housework..took some schooling of my own to achieve him there though, lol.
" I really want a grandson"
I hold 2 girls and I'm done having kids. She is SOL and had better get a grip.
Well she have never said anything directly too me besides commenting on my weight all the time but I mean come on! I only just had a baby and had preeclampsia! But anyways she told everyone contained by Oklahoma that I never took care of my son and that was total bs! SHE was the one who would come into my room and cart Christopher out before or when he woke up. Everytime we would go out we would have him adjectives ready and she would ask us to leave him. I was soo po'ed when I hear that though.
hahahahaha OMG Donna! Too funny!
Well my MIL hasnt really said anything as riddiculous as that, but she did buy Addyson a tooth fairy set for her birthday, it had for a moment book in it, and a pouch to put your teeth in and a light for the tooth brownie, when Graeme said to her that Addyson is about 5 or 6 years away from losing teeth, she said oh well she will use it one day. I thought no she wont, within 5 or 6 times as if I am going to remember about that, also too my mum said she saw it in a book club for AU$6.00. Whoa look out big spender, hahaha I laughed.
Lets see when Ryan was a newborn, she said if we didn't swaddle him CPS would pocket him away from us.
Said my son was starving when he was 3 months and NEEDED solids as we be STARVING our son.
Those are just two that popped into my head, her comments are never ending.
She's been good lately. Of course, it may be the fact we live in the middle across the country from her too! :)
When we first visited her with Noah, though, he was only 3 months old. She definitely tried telling me what to do next to MY son. "You should let him cry" when he was in a foreign place and we had been flying all hours of daylight long. And she also tried making me give him a bottle when I KNEW he was tired(five minutes later he be sound asleep in my arms!!).
I don't know what it is about MILs, lol. My own mother hasn't made distasteful comments to me about our son and certainly hasn't tried telling me how to lift up him.
