How do you know when your babe-in-arms is in place to increase the amount of formula at a feed?
My son is 6 weeks old and eats 4 oz every 2 1/2 -3 hours except at night when he sleeps 4-6 hours, eat and sleeps another 3 or 4 hours. With short 1 1/2-3 hour naps. Sometimes he acts hungrier but will quickly detached down and go to sleep. How do i know when he is ready for more to eat?
Babies don't really eat 2 1/2 times their weight. Thats nuts. My baby is 9 months and weigh 16lbs. She drinks about 24oz a day plus regular food and snacks.
It also depends on what type of formula your baby is on. My daughter is on soy and it take more of it to fill her up. I would offer 4oz during the day and later 5oz at bedtime. Then if he's still doing the same then increase another oz for a few days to make sure he's doing honourable on it.
You know he is still hungry when he finishes the bottle.
When you offer him 1/2 oz more at the next nurture, see if he finishes it, then you know he was still hungry.
I always breast-fed, so I own never fed a baby a bottle, but my understanding is that the child should "just" finish all the formula, or even leave a tiny bit - that way you know he have had enough.
So, I suggest that you make more formula for him, agree to him drink as much as he wants, and then make that much for him from consequently on.
Make more in a bottle and see how much he eats. Try not to feed them till hes organized for bed (after a bath and massage) That way he eats more up to that time bed and will sleep for a little bit longer.
Just start offering him more if you think he is hungry for more. If he is hungry he will eat it, if he's not he'll turn his head away or clothes his mouth or a short time ago act disinterested in general. Just try offering him more and see what he does. If he seems to be hungry up to that time his normal times he may want more. At his next feeding cause 5 ounces and see if he finishes it all. Good luck!!
He'll start crying more... Babies "believe" in Supply-Side Economics... The MORE they Demand, the MORE you're expected to "Supply"! :)
Answers: All trial and error immediately, you will learn his eating habits and wants, in the meantime, offer him more if you think he seem hungry even after he has finished his 4 oz. He won't eat if his tummy is full, he will move his head to the side or push the nipple out near his tongue/purse his lips.
i was told that a baby should hold 2.5 oz per lb the baby weighs a day.. so multiply your baby's cargo times 2.5. if you over feed your baby it can cause childhood plumpness. ask your dr how much he should be eating.. my dr told me 4 oz every 3 hrs is too much for my baby when she was that age. but every toddler is different. she is 3 months old now and she does fine with 3 oz every 3 hrs. hope this help Source(s): mom of 3 month old
