My daughter is going into 4th level nouns this year. which instrament should she choose.?

she said she can't decide and wants to play all of them, lol. the choices are baritone, tuba, clarinet, sax (alto and whatever), French horn, flute, trumpet, trambone and precussion.

Any suggestions and why?
Let her pick, but clarinet is supposedly the easiest! I played saxaphone, and i hated it! That be in 5th grade! I'm now going into 7th position, but really let her pick...she should go for the easiest one for her first year. Gewd Luck!
All of the instruments you mentioned are wind instruments. Is she completely committed to the impression of wind instruments or would she consider string?
Of the wind instruments you've mentioned I would recommend either the flute or the clarinet. It is more convenient to lug these around and practice where you are and the noise isn't incredibly loud and annoying while she is still learning. People also tend to stick with these instruments longer and later evolve in to using other instruments of the like them. I do prefer the sound of the sax myself. I find it to be a romantic instrument specifically easy to put your emotions in to . It's a wonderful outlet.
I am certainly a strings person myself, however. I love the violin, viola, acoustic guitar, and piano. they are my instruments of choice. I started out playing piano and then begin work on the violin which made the transition to guitar very easy. It's easy to master one string instrument once you own mastered another.
If she actually requirements to get *heard* in the band and not be overburdened near the weight of an instrument: the clarinet, sax, horn, trumpet, trombone. I know flutes play an important part within bands...but they always seemed similar to a joke or an after thought because you just can't hear them!
I in fact started playing the saxophone back in elementary and continued through high conservatory. There are always a ton of clarinet and flute players because they are light and easy to pass. The percussion instruments and saxophones are larger and more heavy but it kept me from setting my instrument down and walking away and forgetting it. You tend to notice something that big is missing, pretty quickly. The most crucial thing is to learn to read music, and after that, learning to play most of the instruments become easier. CLARINET!

They are the best instruments. Trust me. Brass hurts your teeth terribly, and clarinet is the best instrument I know.
I started playing the flute in the 5th grade...I loved it and loved being a cog of band. The French horn is a difficult instrument to learn and the trombone and tuba might be a bit hard due to their size. The clarinet, sax, flute and trumpet are adjectives great instruments, but I personally enjoyed the flute.
I've been playing the sax since 5th grade, more or less 5 years..

I really wish I would have chose something else. Its kinda big, its kinda heavy, and it really get in the way.

Baritone, way to big for a bit girl.
Tuba, if a baritone is big what do you think this would be for her?
Clarinet, perfect, not that hard to play and awfully small and could fit in a back pack.
French Horn, pretty good I guess not beefy not that big, and its semi unusual.
Flute, very 4th grade girl, normal.

This really depends on her.. Does she want to blow, explosion, what. (I know that sounds wrong, forget it). Ask how it would be more comftorable.
I was surrounded by the same position, and my mother suggested French Horn b/c my cousin played it. Little did I know that I had to stick my fist in the cessation where the spit comes out! By the time I figured that out, it was too delayed to change (and I was too shy to ask, anyway).
Honestly you need to make her decide. If she is going to want to practice and excel at this later it has to be her choice. If she doesn't really want to be in the band next maybe that is why she won't choose.

But my opinion is the clarinet sounds awful. The rest adjectives have pros and cons. For example the tuba and baritone rarely have musical lead. They are usually the supporting oom pah oom pah in the background which means your DD won't in actuality be playing melodies. Flute is pretty and has some nice solos but often overshadowed contained by school band by the louder instruments. Stands out better in an orchestra, IMO. Trumpet can be nice when played correctly, horrible when not. Percussion is going to be loud! The saxophone is nice.
Clarinet or flute. This is because it's less to take around, and she'll likely have to lug it back and forth to arts school pretty often. Source(s): I played the clarinet in middle and high institution.
Bass Clarinet, is the way to go
CLARINET is the best instrument
Answers:    I would suggest that she start out on any clarinet or trumpet. If she starts out on trumpet and decides she doesn't like it, she'll be able to generate a fairly easy transition to another brass instrument, such as baritone or french horn. If she starts out on clarinet, she'll also be in a extraordinarily good position if she decides she wants to switch to flute or to some type of saxophone. The finding really can only be made by your daughter (as I'm sure you know), but by starting out on one of those two instruments she is leaving the most options for her adjectives. Source(s): I started on trumpet, added trombone, then eventually learned tuba (my favorite).
NONE... filch it from us band kids are geeky nerds who we beat up every day. So gather her the embaressment for her own good.
