Twelve year older boy: Bullied?
Here is the scenario:
A twelve year old boy is extremely gifted for his age. He jumps vertebrae and forth from extreme maturity (where he talks on a level where on earth kids his age can't relate) to extreme immaturity - where he is just a misery. He is a nice kid. But is extremely picked on.
At camp he's had things stolen and broken. He's scared to consult to adults. He doesn't tend to tell people about ancestors that bully him since he is scared that it will get worse. He has one friend, but they don't turn to the same school. He can't stand up for himself since he is sensitive. He holds eveything inside.
He can't make friends.
How can he operation with this? ANy suggestions? We were thinking conselling could help but i would love some impact on how to sustain him. It breaks our heart to see him hurt like this.
Answers: hmm...
Does he go to a public or private school? I know this sounds snooty, but my little cousin would be picked on unsuccessfully if he went public (he's in the city of San Fran, so that might be another story). I go to a public university, but I live in a little town, but the kids can still be pretty bad.
Why not try a gifted/magnet academy? Or a "confidence camp"? (There's a girl one by Tyra Banks... so there must be a male one.) Poke around the internet for something, or somewhere, that would fit your son.
I wish you the best of luck! :)
That is fruitless. It sucks being picked on and this kid does not deserve this as well as anyone deserves this. I say try counseling first. If that doesn't backing and I hate to say this, but it's time to get this kid pumped up into a lean close-fisted butt kicking machine. I used to get picked on as a kid and my parents told me if someone messes with me to see their butts. I didn't want to and most often I lost the fight because I never like to clash, so I usually lost the fight because I was afraid if pushed way to far I may pick up a weapon and put a final conclusion to my bullies.
